I live in the cold Northeast, lots of snow, salted roads, and rust on my vehicles.I've read about 3 types of rust retardant paints- 1.POR 2.Zero-rust and 3.Bill Hirsch's miracle paint.Any good results, bad results with these paints?I want to paint an old chassis {black}with it.Any responses would help.John

After 20 years in the Auto Body Industry, I have found if its made out of steel, its gonna rust. 2 ways to slow down the process are: 1. Keep it clean. 2. Keep it dry. This is why cars don't rot out in the desert southwest. Also, the alloy of steel has a lot to do with it, some replacement body parts coming from Timbuckthree have a high sulpher or phosphorus or something, and they'll flash rust before you can prime 'em. Sigh. Grind 'er as clean as you can before paint, but if its rusted, the rust will come back. High quality paint just keeps it from bubbling out a little sooner.

The site below sells both the POR and Zero rust so you could find out more about it there. The best thing would be to remove as much rust as possible before topcoating. Don't you just hate rust!

Have used Bill Hirsch's Miracle Paint... it's good stuff. Just don't use it without gloves;it will take weeks to wear off. His engine enamels are great also.
