Anyone ever seen one? I bought a bucket o' air ratchets at an auction and one of 'em is a 1/2" drive Ingersol Rand. Other than being painted green all over it works great- but what would you use one for that you wouldn't grab am impact for?

The Ejector Bars on an Injection Molding Machine are in a tight location and need to be 'tight' but not impacted tight. We use many 1/2" impacts in our shop.

I have seen them used to ''POP''(pre-tension) breaks on large electric crane motors on cranes used in pulp wood mills. The advantage the ratchet has over an impact wrench for that type job is the ratchet applies the torque steady and shock free which also makes it a hazard for jerking a knot in your tail if trying to break large stuck bolts.

Keep the ratchet head greased; on most of those there is a little "pimple-like" thing that is a grease fitting on the ratchet head. You grease it with a small needle-style grease gun. Ratchet heads will get pretty hot and fail if not greased.

Hello jose bagge.
I got a 3/8 drive IR, I would watch my knuckles if i were you! Powerful tools. keep the air feeding them at 100# or less, again for the good of your knuckes.
Guido.

Tight places where you can't use a gun. What color green is it? If it's OD, it might have been a "Special." That's what I-R called the tools they did for the military.

it's definitely spray painted green....the way a business would paint something so it doesn't end up in an employee's tool box through "mistaken identity"..

Looks like it might have anyway.... but it's in my box now! $5.00 for the bucket- had 2 3/8", the 1/2, and a air chisel, and they all work!

Most of that I-R stuff you can get parts for it was from what they called their "Industrial Line." These were a little more quality than some of their "Automotive After-Market Line." A lot of these were throw aways.

You would be surprised at the places you can get them in on cars and trucks.Keep it oiled and it will last.

I work on a lot of small engines. I have a 1/4" air ratchet that is about the handiest tool I have.

Those air ratchets can reach into places you can't get with an air impact. That's what I use mine for.

Many of the air ratchets come in either 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive. So you can get the 3/8inch if you want it. they interchange. CENTAUR

When I was buying air tools about 20 years ago, I had a much better inventory of 1/2" sockets compared to my 3/8" sockets, so my air ratchet is 1/2". They run about the same cost, so it's just a matter of what you need.
