I hope one of these days I will be able to post good news for once, but the latest in the long string of bad news is a suicide attempt by the girl friend of my youngest stepson. She was born in Russia, her mother and she moved here when she was yet an infant, she is bilingual, Russian/English. Anyhow, her mom is more or less a full blown alcoholic, a couple weeks ago the living situation with her mom and stepdad got bad enough she left and one of my stepson's uncles let her stay there. She is only 17, and now in a coma after taking all the pills she could find in the house. Prayers needed, thanks, DOUG

Wishing the best to the girl but actually praying that your stepson puts significant mileage between him and this girl immediately. Run young man - run!

Not to sound bad here but that is not an attempt at suicide but rather a cry for help. Seriously, if you are truly suicidal it is either a gun or stepping out in front of a truck or train. This comes from a friend who studied human behaviors. Get her the help she needs and away from the cause.

A GOOD NEWS update, she is going to be OK. They are keeping her a couple more days and giving her a psychiatric evaluation to see why she did what she did. Guess she was very drunk also, she is going to catch quite a bit of heat on that from the law as being a minor. Thank you all for your prayers. DOUG

Praying for this Russian girl. Probably had her share of bad things in life. Alcohol and drugs is a tough nut, but Jesus can help her. Pray without ceasing and lots of love.

I sure hope she comes out of it OK. My prayer has already been sent to her and her family.

They say a person who commits suicide is at peace when they finally do the act, and it's probably true, but they have been going through a personal hell before they come to that point.

A brother-in-law of ours commited suicide a few years ago. He had been doctoring for depression for about a year but he still went through with it. Since then we have had a bunch of "what if's " going through our minds.Jim

Hello Doug and T-Bone --- I see and have seen a lot of these problems come up --- and I can give advise -- but no one will use the advise cause of many reasons -- I use the 80/20/2 rule -- of which I have invented myself -- that being -- 80% of this world are Lost Souls -- 20% are born to seek God in their lives -- and out of the 20% that seek -- 2% actually Find God and Follow Him... This Rule Works every time, but 80% will not understand or accept it.

Hi Doug,

Prayers from our family to yours!

I just went thru this last year with our daughter. Make damn sure your girl took a overdose, absolute positive. They induce comma until the drugs can work work thru the body with time, if it indeed is a drug induced cause.

First, it's a known fact that a "teaching" hospital is the best place for care for this type of problem as they have "teams" of doctors for every case. Most likely this hospital is a County hospital. More heads thinking equal faster recovery.

Our Daughter was first thought to overdose on Soma, a powerful muscle relaxer. When the SIL found the daughter and she was in severe convultions againist the bedroom wall. They worked on her for over two hours before they could life flight her to the hospital 75 miles away.

The ER Doc diganose was "soma drug overdose" as that's what the daughter was taking. No lab tests to confim the diagnose, just "gut feeling" of his experience with a drug overdose of "Soma".
Nine days in a comma in ICU, we kept telling the Doc's they had it wrong that she had everything to live for, 2yr old at home but her FIL was burried that day.

When the Doc's would try to temporary bring her out of comma, she would once again start into severe convultsions. Something that you never want to see, believe me.
One head intern Doc listen to us on the 9th day, that this was NOT a drug overdose and there had to be another problem and ordered a spinal tap. Her spinal pressure was 57 plus where normal is 10??? The machine would not read higher than 57. They had never seen that high of spinal pressure before!

Two days latter after the spinal tap, the daughter was awake and moved from ICU to a regular "Physic" room. The Doc's still did not believe us and the down fall of a teaching hospital as we once again had to start over with a new "team" of Doc's. I had to get down right nasty with a couple of them. I told one Doc, she needed to go back to school and take Doctor 101 over again as she sure didn't know what the heII she was doing.

When patients come out of comma, they do and say things that are very irrational. My daughter had 7 kids the night before, the hospital staff were trying to kill her, etc:, They here alot while in the comma state according to my daughter.

Our daughter had her medecine stored in a small steel safe, away from the 2yo and 13yo, and fell and hit her head trying to open the safe to get to her medicine. That's what caused her severe convultsions, not drugs as the Doctors first thought. It took another 3mths or so for the daughter to fully recover.

Hope this helps some how!

T_Bone

Doug, while in the military I saw a few suicides and we were taught one thing. Always take talk of suicide seriously because it's ALWAYS going to happen. It's never a joke or a bluff, and I really think that any person that is not trained in dealing with it needs some professional help. Good luck to all concerned.
