Pulled the Taurus into the tractor bay tonight, thinkin' I'd analyze whether it's the alternator or the water pump (we've had issues with the cooling sytem lately) makin' the squeal under the hood. Discovered as I tried to remove the belt for the analytical stage that the swivel point on the tensioner seems to be bound up, so I can't yet get the belt off. Pulled enough that I began to fear snappin the bolt on the tension idler, so left it be. This is pot metal, so I'm soliciting advice on what might be best elixir to get in and soaking on this thing to give me a chance. I've got PB and Liquid Wrench around and some other stuff on the shelf. What might work here?

I'm envisioning a few days of soaking, heating and cooling with some judicious tunking at seemly intervals

And given the setup, any direct experience on where and how to get it in there would be great, but any and all ideas and suggestions are welcome.

If you can get your hands on some stuff called FREE sold by Cartified Labs Inc. it will do the trick. Best stuff I have ever used to free up bolts.

I think you have FOUND your problem. The seized tensioner arm is causing the bolt to slip/squeal 'cause it's not keeping it tight.

Replace the tensioner.

Yep. Got that part. What I'm lookin for now is fer ideas on how to break that stuck tensioner loose.

I've got a new belt to put on ( my cursory exaination of the whle situation indicates the old one NEEDS replacin' in the worst kind of way). But tuenin' the wrong way on the tensioner loosens the blt. Comin' back the right way, she pops back in but too much more effort and I'll twist off the bolt. Clearences are tight enough that it's hard to see where to put any heat that might help. For the meantime, I'll ppu the PB to her and run her, hopi' that the heatin' and coolin of he part will help loosen things up. I just don't have much fatih in that workin' on pot metal, and wonder if there's a better penetrant for the job.

Better yet would be a Ford tech willin' to share the trick for gettin' her loose.

Remove it from the block, don't worry about freeing it up.
