Have a THOR 1/2 HP bench grinder. Need a rotary switch, any ideas where to look?

Thor! I haven't seen that brand in decades. Used to be good stuff IIRC. Get to a REAL electric motor shop and they'll fix you up. Might as well have it cleaned and serviced while it's there. $20.00 and it'll go another 40 years.

Go to an electric motor shop and get a generic "solid-state starting switch", and wire it in, in place of the centrifugal starting switch. Does the same thing, with no moving parts or contacts. (They are sold by the approximate HP rating of the motor.)

Look in your yellow pages for an Industrial Electric repair shop. They will fix you up in no time.

I've never worked on a rhor but have done a few others.Take the old one out and see it it's got an amp or horespower rating. Go to any well stocked hardware store and find one that will fit both amp/hp wise and in the hole the old one came out of. If you can get a rating higher than you need it''s a plus,start up on these motors draws a lot of current and toasts switches if their not heavy duty.

If your talking about the internal switch that turns off the start winding, try Grainger.

I hate to answer a question with a question,but..... .why does it have to be a rotary switch??? Why not just a simple toggle switch?? How many wires on your present switch??

Thank you Dusty, It is the internal switch for the starting winding. Will try Grainger. The grinder is old but very serviceable otherwise.
