Looking at a 3/4" Ingersol Rand impact wrench priced at $399.99 in Northern Tool Catalog. I'm not a professional mechanic, just a guy with two Farmall M's and two Farmall Super M's to work on. The wrench is a Model 2141. Is this more tool than I need? Does anyone have this Model? Any advice is highly welcome. Thanks, Dick in Vermont.

Is that one 1150 ft. lbs reverse and 1100 forward If so then it is a real good one .They vary so much from one brand to another The biggest 1/2 in I know of is 850ft lbs . If you don't compare the ft lbs you dont know what you are getting . Cheaper is not better when it comes to impact wrenches unless you don't need a good powerful one.

get a 3/4. You will need it. Maybe not for this job but in the future. Of course, I have the compressor to handle it. I got 3/4" impact at Tractor Supply for $169 that let me take dozer pads off & on. Glad I got that. 1/2" wouldn't begin to do that job.

A lot of times a strong 1/2 inch impact will take something apart a 3/4 drive wont because it hammers faster.I have a 3/4 impact, but use it very seldom.I have wore a few 1/2 to 3/4 adapters out.A lot depends on your compressor too.I can run an inch drive on mine with a big hose but I have to let it build up after about 3 bolts. Now I can run a 1/2 inch drive all day long with a 3/8 air hose.A 3/4 would probly run better with a bigger hose like a 1/2 inch.If thats all you have its overkill.A good 1/2 inch is a better buy.

In my Opinion a 3/4" Impact wrench is overkill for the average user. A good 1/2" Electric such as Dewalt sells or a Chicago Pnuematic 1/2 in. Air Impact is all the average user needs. I have one of each and in general use I do not need any more. I do have and occasionaly use a 3/4" Socket Set with a Rachet and Breaker Bar and find that after loosening whatever with the Breaker Bar I can continue to loosen the Nut or so with the !/2" Impact Wrenches described. I tend to favor the Dewalt Electric usually but the Air Wrench would serve the same function just as easily.JC

if you have a cheap 1/2'' drive impact now, and maybe not satisfied with its performance & thinkng 3/4'' drive is what you need for improvement, try a good hi-output 1/2'' gun first. i'll do a lot, even using an adapter for the ocassional larger 3/4'' drive socket.

They make alot of 1/2" drive impacts that are pretty stout now. I've got a Matco that puts out close to 1,000 ft lbs. Ingersol makes a similiar one with the same ratings I think. 3/4" is probably a bit of overkill if your not a heavy mechanic.

Unless you have 3/4 drive sockets 1/2 drive would be more practical. Typical home/shop air compressor will not handle the volume of air needed for a 3/4 dr impact. My nickels worth.

Thanks for all the great advice. I"m going to try the 1/2" Impact. There"s always the long pipe handle for the occasional stuck Nut. Thanks again. Dick in Vermont.
