Ya know, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System rant that I turned into a battery rant got me thinking about another piece of idiocy- modern "government mandated" toilets.
I can tell you that any modern toilet that I have to flush 4 times to take care of the business that a 20 year old hopper accomplishes in 1 flush is not saving any water...but all you can buy are the new "water savers".
I'm gonna have to "port and polish" a new hopper just to get the performance from it thatthe ones in mom's house have had for 50 years.

I put in a new Kohler last year. Believe it was the Gabrielle model. Only had to flush twice on one occasion, and have since learned that if the load appears unusually difficult, just hold the handle a few seconds longer and it's all going down. If you want better than that, the power flush models could flush a dead cat.

I"m another Toto fan. Changed our 3 American Standard for Toto"s about 5 years ago and it"s fun to go to the bathroom. One flush and it"s all gone. Real fast too. I believe it would flush a bowl full of golf balls, but I haven"t tried it. 1.6 gallons per flush. Google toilets and you can find a comparison to help you decide. Toto is made in Japan, final assembly in Georgia.

My grandson regularily "Hydraulics" my toilets shut.. I find that the old style work a little better than the water savers..

I have a Universal Rundle low flush toilet. One flush covers over 90% of the time.
No complaints.

Plumber told me TOTO is best. Flush a tennis ball he said if you want to. We spent good money on KOHLER. Needed 2 flushes minimum. One day replaced the rubber plunger. Must have lead in it. Very heavy. With new one, it does double flush every time. This is a little better. Should have listened to plumber.

Wife wanted one of the taller stools - we got a Kohler (sp?) for $222 at Lowe's. One flush does it. We put some cheap ones in our church addition, and they require several tries and sometimes a plunger, ha. The cheap ones should come with a plunger as part of the kit.

It's funny they require a 3/4 service line to your home so you'll have plenty of volume/pressure. Looks like they'd mandate a 1/4 line to go along with the water saving stool thought. . .

Look at the Terry Love website for ratings of the newer toilets. There now are many good ones. After 3 years experience using the Toto, mine were made in Georgia, I would not go back to the old toilets.

Maybe it has changed by now, but a while back you could still buy the old syle water guzzlers in Canada. I always figured if I needed a new toilet in my older house I would go there and buy one.
It would be about a 4 hour drive one way but would be a nice weekend trip. Don"t know what complications I would run into coming back across the border would be. Pete

When I installed a 3/4 bath in the basement, I got a $50 Mancesa brand toilet, and have the same results as you. Minimum 2 pulls on the handle. My ma recently replaced her toilet w/an American Standard. Sorry do not recall the model. She got it at Menards, was about $250. 1 flush does it all.

We built a house 5 yr ago, i told the plumbing supply in the new toilets didn`t flush the first time they were going to get them back. Toto brand and we have been as happy as you can be over a flush.
