3G/Hsdpa wireless modem

Hi All, This isnt strictly a tool question but there must be a few of you with knowledge on this,
I recently got on of those 3G Hsdpa wireless modem its a ZTE MF 622 it works ok but I would like to try and connect an external antenna to boost the signal recieved There is a small socket on the back of the unit to take an external antenna , the socket looks like the connector which was on the back of a cell phone what is that type of connector called would a cell phone antenna work ? or would it not be compatible with the 3G hsdpa frequencies?

You will need a dual band cell phone antenna 800/1900 Mhz. A broad band beam would be best pointed toward the tower. I don't have a Hsdpa system and just know the basic requirements. Your system vendor should have some antenna options or recommendations. You could try some of the common cell phone antennas but if not designed for the higher frequency band don't be surprised if it does not work very well.
