Hot water and dry basement with one stone

Would the mechanism from a dehumidifier installed in a water heater cost less to heat the water, dehumidify and cool the basement? Not so great in the winter but in summer wow.

Called heat pump water heaters. The byproduct is cool dry air.

Ours provides 50% of our needed dehumidification for our 20,000 cu ft, .5 ACH. Smaller basement, more hot water use, or fewer air changes, and you'd get 100%.

Mostly they tout the reduced water heating cost over electric resistance, roughly 1/3. But when you can use the free byproduct (cool dry air), they really shine.

6 years in service here, if/when it dies another comes in. Ours is a tankless add-on to a conventional tank heater, made by Crispaire Corp., Cordele Ga. Had trouble working with a new electronic control water heater I bought, other than that, excellent. Paid for itself in just over one season.

They make and sell little AC units that hook onto your Waterheater and do just that.
Use the waste heat to heat water with.
