Just curious...

The previous owner had a security system installed on my '93 Bonnieville. While it's still a good/presentable car, keeping it running/operating safely are of greater concern to me than the possibility of having a 15 year old car stolen.

Question is: The security horn, which was mounted on the inner fender is a UNEGO Box from TECHNE. I know so little about auto electricity. What voltage/amps or whatever, does this thing operate on? I briefly hooked it up to my 12 volt charger set at 2 amps and...silence.

Thanks,
Glenn F.

Glenn, Are you sure it's a horn? Most add-on alarm units I have seen use a siren, which is just a glorified speaker, so applying 12 volts to it would not make a noise. The control box supplies an audio output, not just a steady voltage. HTH.
Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

Most horns are rather high amps about 10-15 amps.electronic ones using a speaker and circuit board require few amps.Test by using regular car battery if its 12vdc, should be a tag on it.

Could get alarms which use the horn and work on the principal of air pressure when car door is opened.[doepler]
Trouble would go off,and funnily, used to be wee hours of morning.possibly by other cars passing by.
