No need to replace the rod bolts on a "street" or regular duty engine. I have a Mitsubishi in my Plymouth I over hauled 50,000 miles ago. It has almost 200,000 miles on and going strong.

Even the head bolts are not "torque to yeild" type so no need to replace them either.

Be careful! Some "modern" engines use "stretch to yield" rod bolts. The can never be re-used. Check your service manual or with the service department at your dealer.

Whenever we would rebuild a connecting rod we would put in new bolts. That is a very low stress engine, meaning they're unlikely to be stretched. First I would see what a set would cost. If the cost isn't prohibitive go ahead, it'll give you peace of mind. John in Nebr.

I've always re-used my rod bolts....and never had any problems...if they balanced your engine (by grinding the edges of the connecting rods) be sure to make sure that check the weights on replacement rod bolts if you decide to go that route.

As I recall, rod bolt torque is generally under 40 ft/#s so stretch shouldn't be a big problem.
