well i tried to jet the field with pressure washer, but it didnt help..... sooooo...called the setic guys out, 3 guys, two trucks, they pumped the tank, then jetted the field and re-pumped everything out. field was clogged with fine black silt (goo-ooze-creepy stuff-sludge) tank was pumped two years ago, have been using rid-x every other month, and adding yeast. well, should be good to go again!!!!

In my opinion RidX is the reason a lot of drainfields end up shot. The chemical breaks up the stuff that should be retained in the septic tank and allows it to go into the drainfield where it wrecks everything.

After I installed a new septic system, I always used to tell my customers not to put anything in it unless they ate it first -- I was only half joking.

pops had that problem with his leech field. someone told him to put hydrogen poroxide in the field. not the dime store 3% the chemical grade 55 drum stuff. put in the outlet into the field, works well cleaned sludge and fixed problem. so research it and see if it might help you

How about one of these as a back-up ? Cheaper than new laterals and all that stuff.

Of course, the company might be out of stock by now. I saw this ad in one of my Country Gentleman magazines from Sept.1918.

Couldn't imagine working in the returns department for this company. 10 day free trial..... return if not happy. Yeah, okay.

Hi Glen,

Well the black goo tells you that you've been killing your natural compost bacertia most likely from the over use of rid-x and yeast. If you'll notice theres no MSDS sheet on the rid-x website.

With too much yeast then the yeast consumes the food and the natural bacteria is starving. That's about as simply put as I can get it but it's not technically correct and is more complicated than I stated.

In 25yrs I had my tank pumped once, not because the tank action was dead but a grease plug up at the inlet. I wanted to see just how I was doing in the bottom of my tank so I had him pump it too.

Both chambers had less than 2" of mud on the bottom. Right on schedule for 18yrs of use.
Composting Formula:

(3parts) carbon (wood, leafs, toliet paper, newspaper, wheat straw. etc) Also called "browns"

(1part) nitrogen (manure, human or animal it don't matter, hay, vegetable scraps, or other nitrogen source) Also called "greens"
Water (enough water that it will slightly drip when squeezed in your fist in a earth ball)

Oxygen (as much as it can get, as in turning the pile)

Example:

I've been using 1 cup vinegar/25gal in my RV black/gray tanks for the past 16yrs. This disolves all TP and solids in less than 48hrs and is the first stage of composting. Vinegar also stops all odor. If I have to hold my tank longer than a week then I add another cup of vinegar for odor control. I haven't used commerical RV toliet chemicals in 16yrs.
I was going to refer you too the Gardening website site where you could read about the technical aspect of composting from user "Captian Compost" a very knowledgable person on composting with being explained in laymans terms. They apparently ran him off and replaced his excellant simple info. Such a shame.

Your leach field will survive but not with out a alot of help and time. I would flood the lines with vinegar and nothing else. I would still divert your wash water on top of the ground for awhile.

As others say, the Rid x is a waste of money; if your system works it isn't needed and if your system isn't working it won't be enough to help any. So, just a waste. Yeast is for making bread rise, it doesn't eat up the stuff in a septic, so again....

If your leach field got slimed up a few years ago, it will not want to work right, so this will be a reoccuring problem. Kinda shot your leach field, should be replaced.

A fellow on a local radio home repair show says you should just take the amount of money Rid-X costs and flush it down the toilet, as it will do just as much for your septic system as the Rid-X. But, you will save the cost of the fuel to go to the store to buy the Rid-X.

Ounce you plug up your laterals with sludge your system will never work to any degree for only a short time regardless of how much you flush or power pump your laterals. The problem probally started with not pumping the solids on a 2-4 year schedule (every political election yr when there is a lot of it flying around),a broken or missing baffle board cooking grease being put down the system, LOTS of detergint/soap in the system all kill the bacterial action. DON'T WASTE your $ on septic system additivies,after the first flush when the system is used you get more than enough food for the bacteria to eat. Its the other things that you may be putting down that are stopping the digestive process. Consider using the $ to rebuild or replace THE LATERALS.

yup dang near so full my eyes are brown. when i went to hook up the pressure washer to the outside spigot on the house, somebody left the garden hose hooked up, froze the dange pipe just inside the house, soo, when i turned the faucet on, momma came running out of the house yelling flood flood. fixed that late yesterday.
