Makita miter saw

I have a Makita LS1020 miter saw with a problem, When you move the saw down to make a cut, it binds? If you move the blade guard up by hand it moves down toward the wood smoothly. I took the thing apart 10 times today and still can't figure why it binds. Anybody else run into this.

Thanks guys. It has something to do with the lever that pushes the guard up. I've had it apart several times. I'll try lubing the pivot points. I was thinking of replacing the guard, lever and the fastening hardware but thats about $30.

CH, I've had the same problem on two Makita saws. Use a good non greasy spray lubercant,on the bar,that pushes the guard up. Also on the contact point on the guard. I use LPS no.1. Philip

Nine times out of ten the saw is bound up because of sawdust buildup in the hinge part of the saw, use an air blower to blow it out. It could also be the guard binding up. Also make sure you have a 10" blade, years ago there were a few 9" bladed saws, when you put a 9" blade on a 10" saw it don't cut all the way through. Make sure it is unplugged before working on it, be safe. I've been using these saws for 30 years, let us know what the problem was when you figure it out. Johnny
