kobalt tools

What do you folks think of kobalt tools? I recently bought their ratchet wrenches and some sockets sets. They are very comfortable tools. Finish is nice on them also. Much less $ than snap on and mac. Made in USA. NASCAR sponser. I think I will start to shop more at Lowes.

Thought I had read on here a while back that there tool boxes were China made, is this all thats made there or are some of there tools also made there.

I have a large Kobalt socket wrench set that I bought about 3 years ago. It has three different drivers. I'm very happy with it. I use it on the farm almost daily. I had a Husky socket wrench set before this, that was stolen out of my truck when I had it in the shop. I liked the Husky set, but the Kobalt is MUCH better.

I just thought I would jump in here and say what I discovered at Lowes last nite.

I went in to Lowes to see about getting a Milwalki lithium-ion 18 volt cordless drill. Every time I go into Lowes, I spend a few minutes in the tool department, especially the cordless drills section. Always in the past they had all the major brands but not last nite. They had one Milwalki drill (old style) a feww Bosch and a couple of Dewalts. There were Firestorm Drills all over the place. They probably had a hundred of them. I didn't ask anybody what was going on, I didn't have time to find someone who could really answer a question, so I left without buying anything.

Went to my trusty hometown hardware and got the Milwalki that I was looking for today.

I don't have a problem with the Firestorm drill because I have never even used one. So I don't have an opinion one way or the other. But I was wondering if Lowes was just going to carry cheaper tools and not name brand.

From what I know / heard, Craftsman tools are now made by the lowest bidder. I had heard it was all Emerson at one point and Emerson is now making the Husky line for Home Depot.
Just what I heard and no facts to back it up.

Williams used to be a major supplier to BNSF
railroad. I've used them for many years, with no
problems. I understand that Snap-on bought them,
as it was cheaper than building a new factory.
Snap-On may still produce and sell the brand
to industry.

I have a set of their standard wrenches. This is the latter Kobalt, made by Danaher, I also have a few original Kobalt wrenches made by JH Williams. The difference is night and day. I keep the Danaher ones in the shop for making adjustments to power tools, that's all they are good for. I tried working on the car with them - within minutes they had some major burrs. The Williams wrenches are on par with pro brands, too bad Lowes went for the lowest bidder and don't sell them anymore. But you can still get them second hand or even new on places like e-bay. Easy to tell the difference, Williams wrench is full polish.

Craftsman hand tools are made by Danaher ,not Easco.....

I like their open end / box wrenches they're longer for more leverage.

from what i understand, they are made by Eastco, same company that makes Craftsman

For working on your own equipment and truck etc, Kobalt makes a fine tool. I use to work nights on dump trucks and tractor trailers, and a Nissan dealership, thus I have plenty of Snap on, and Mac, but even then, if Craftsmen made a tool that I needed, I didn't think twice to get it. I've changed out many a trucks clutch with Black Hawk and S&K tools. I've seen the Kobalt tools at Lowes, and I don't see anything that would stop me from using them around the farm.
