Twice this year I've been unable to start the 8N. It'll turn over, slowly, but fast enough where she should start. It seems like it's maybe flooded. Any tips on cold weather starting?

Try warming the intake maifold with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes - works with my 8N.

Find a "headbolt heater"! ("Flatty" V-8 head shown. I had one in an 8N Ford I used to own. I wish I would have kept the heater.)

Biger battery, engine heater, ether (sparingly), gas line treatment.

Try keeping the clutch disengaged. It"s amazing how much drag the oil in the trans. and the pump can create. It will spin a little faster and that may be all you need.

I also will turn it over a few times without the ignition on to help prime the cylinders. Old motorcycle trick that works ok.

If you think you may have flooded it you may want to put in some new plugs.

My 2N (6V) gradually got worse starting in the winter and I finally traced it to a bad ignition switch. Starts way better now with a new switch and new plugs (AL-437).

Jim---just for fun, leave your ignition switch off, pull the choke all the way out and turn your engine over about 4 times.

Now, turn your ignition switch on, pull the choke out, and try to start it.

That works for one of my N tractors on really cold days (below zero). It will start right away with this method.

I have a few N Tractors, and they all seem to have their own personalities on cold days.

Could be as simple as weak spark. What I would do is check the spark and also pull the air tube off the carb and double check if its is flooded. If it is replace the spark plugs with auto=lite 437s and try again. The N series tractor are well known for gas fouling the plugs and when that happens they will not start. I would not use starting fluid on it because it can be hard on the engine
