Saw demonstration of Henrob torch at show. Was doing beautiful welding of aluminum using Harris Welco #10 flux. Had small piece of sheet aluminum bent into a vee. A bit of flux in the vee and splashed some water on the flux. Mixed the water and flux with the filler rod. Laid the rod in the vee when more flux needed. I would have considered the water to be a contaminant. What are your comments on this technique? Suggestions for a better way?

It's common practice to add water to steel brazing flux if it dries out. I had to do it yesterday.

The presence of moisture presents a problem in arc welding as the electricity will separate the hydrogen molecules from the oxygen molecules. They are then introduced into the molten puddle causing a condition known as hydrogen imbrittlement.

I am a painter / metal finisher ( body man) at an International Truck plant. We weld body metal on the cabs and use oxy/act for a good part of it. We use a powder form of flux, heat the rod and dip. The flux will then stick to the rod. I have seen others mix the jar of flux with water to make a thin paste with good results also.
