So I bought a junk 97 gmc diesel dually for the 12 foot flatbed mounted thereupon. After sucessfully transplanting said plum to my f450 I have now to dispose of the jimmy to recoup some of the purchase price. I think I know how much the liftgate, wheels and other stuff is worth but before I sell the exhaust to someone for $5 I now realize that the catalytic converter might be worth some real money. Does anyone know for sure how much? I'm looking at a scrap price ad that lists a range of $20-160.00 for each converter. Thanks for any advice! (maybe its also worth deleting the cat on my powerstroke farm truck as well). dave

I see ads in the newspaper, and the shoppers for
"wanted: catylitic convertors, paying big money"
but they don't say what they pay.

Yes I think i"ve found that the cats on diesels aren"t worth as much as they are different from those on gasoline engines. Some say they are useless soot collectors when installed on diesel engines. also i looked at my engine and the fuel pump is gone but the vacuum is there. let me know should you fail to find everything today, cheers

I don't get it. Stealing converters? Whenever I get a large amount of miles on my converter in a vehicle (plugged up), I just take it off, beat the innards out, then reinstall to keep the inspector happy.

Sounds like the going rate. Bigger the convertor the more there worth. I think it is the platinum (correct me if I'm wrong) that is recycled from them.

They must be worth something because the crooks are stealing them off of cars in parking lots. Do a google search for "stealing catalytic converters".

Check them out on ebay. Wathing a few lately, and they go around $90-$130 plug shipping. I think it has to advertised as scrap though. They could pull the auction if you advertise what its for.
