Dumb paint question

After evaluating my time and money budgets I decided to do a rattlecan and brush job on my 2N using rust-oleum 'smoke gray' enamel.

I know this ain't the best paint but its a temporary job till I can do a complete restoration. (First coat looks pretty good by the way, just a bit rough despite reasonably thorough prep)

My question is, can/should I sand the topcoat between coats, assuming its not still wet enough to smear?

My first paint job, as you can probably tell.

I think Rustolium has a 24 hour re-coat time before you need to sand/scuff it (check the lable). If you are past the re-coat time frame, I would just use a scotch pad to scuff the shine down a bit without removing any of the paint you already have on it. Personally I have not had a problem applying a second coat (roller application) to rustolium even after 7 days of dry time doing this.
