Hyd. pump for dump truck

I have a 1982 International,with a 5-7 yard dump,Galion brand.I need a new hyd. pump for the hoist,I am unsure what to look for.It has a 30"long cylinder,with a 3" bore.The lines supplying it are 1-1/2.The pump is pto operated.

Look in the yellow pages for a shop that knows about truck/hydraulics... it's expensive to learn hydraulics by trial and error...
If you do decide to wing it on your own, make sure you pay attention to the correct rotation of the pump... they're not all the same - putting a CW pump on a CCW pto, for example, will be an expensive, messy, lesson.

A lot will depend upon if you want it to lift FAST (dumping gravel on a road, for example), or slower (unloading grain into a farm auger, for example).

"Williams" is a common pump/reservoir. You can find a dealer in your area from their website.

OR, if the hoist HAS it's own reservoir and valve, and you just need a simple, reaonably-priced pump, try surpluscenter.com.

You can calculate the cubic inch displacment of the cylinder, figure how fast you want it to cycle, to get the pump capaity needed.

You will need to know pump speed, as well. The PTO's TYPICALLY (but NOT ALWAYS) drive the pump @ near engine speed.

I would go to a shop that sets up and repairs dump trucks. I used to work for one that set up winch trucks and just about every other type of hydraulic application other than dump trucks. A williams pump would work for a 1 ton dump but not a 5 yd. or more box. It would be very slow. Most of the dump truck hoists are designed to bypass when the hoist is lifted all the way. This is so it doesn't self destruct if left on, like when spreading gravel. Dave
