OT- Favorite wiper blades?

I will date myself here but what ever happened to blade refills?

I try to change blades 2~3 times a year. I have been buying the Anco brand and never have much trouble. I also have tried the cheap blades at Wal Mart and have found them to be ok as well. My daughter is home for the weekend from college and announced that she has a wiper problem and could I fix it before she hits the road this afternoon.

We have a severe blizzard condition here and I opted to stop at the Advance store that"s close to the house. They have premium blades that are about twice what you pay for Anco. Bosch was suggested but they were out of my sizes. Settled for Trico but after I paid $22.00 for them the counter guy told me that they weren"t that good.

What"s the suggested brand you guys like? We deal with snow here too so if there"s something that"s good in the cold as well I would like to know.

Try the "Lattitudes" sold by RainX.. These things are pre-loaded somehow to maintain pressure and somehow put a RainX type finish on your windsheild during use. I have a set on my own truck and am really happy with them

If you scrub your windshield with Bon-Ami cleanser it will help.

When your blades start to get bad sand them with 400 grit.This was an old CAR Craft magazine trick.It works for a good while.Even cleaning off the ozone with armor all and a rag will work sometimes.

I agree with jimlll. I have silicone blades on both of my vehicles. I ordered the first set over the internet and bought the second set at Walmart.
They are higher priced but you will be glad you bought them.

I've gone through several different blades and blade assemblies on my Chevy Blazers. Often have trouble with blades following the contour of the windshield. Also blades often don't fit frame assemblies, so often the best option is to buy the baldeand framework assembly. Last set I got for mine were MICHLEIN, a bit more expensive, but so far very satisfactory.

I Install ANCO Blades And Then After That I Do Not Buy The Complete Blade Assembly I Just Buy And Install ANCO Refills Which Is Just The Rubber Part. Much easier AND Cheaper.

I gotta go with John on the Motorcraft blades, they do seem to work the best the longest, biggest factor in blade life for me is just how much crud I let build up on the windshield and the blades themselves..jus my 2 cents

I know this probably sounds like an old man, but wipers don't last as long as they did back in the old days. I am not sure if that is true, or I didn't have the money for new wipers as I do now. Just replaced the wipers on my daughter's Focus this weekend. Put a set of Rainex on for her. They cost 8.47 a piece at walmart. First time for me to use them so I ain't sure how they will do. I usually get Anco because they are cheaper. If I get a year out of a set, I am doing good.

A side note, my daughter got married Friday night, so why am I buying wiper blades for her car on Saturday? She is the last of my 3 kids to get married, so me and the wife are free at last. yeah right.

If she's doing highway driving DON'T get the winter blades. At highway speed they lift off the windshield. I drive 40k miles a year up here and know. I haven't tried them yet, but I'm getting a set of Rainex this week. They have a foil on them to keep them from lifting. Other reason I'm trying them is it's a company car. Don't cost me anything..

Yeah - I had somebody talk me into buying a set for my truck and a set for my wife's car (at the same time). They lasted about 3 days and 150 miles. Never again.....

My Ford OEM didn"t last long. I like the Anco winter blades here in N. PA.The best thing I"ve found is to use the Rainex? windshield washer products. they leave that slippery residue.

The new ones on tv is the rain-ex and it retails for $17.95 each here. Used to be that you could go to the pharmacy and get glycerin to soften the rubber on your wiper blades and make them last longer...but today when you do that, the pharmacist will look at you and ask you if you're making a bomb. Just tell him you got some loose hammer heads that your wanting to soak to tighten up the handle. ohfred

I have tried all the major brands with limited success. The absolute best I have ever used are the Motorcraft blades I have my dealer install. Longest lasting with great performance. They aren"t the cheapest, but they work. I am not associated with FOMOCO or any dealer. I Just tried them once and have never switched back.

I know this doesn"t help you today because dealers are closed, but I thought I would add my two cents.

I can no longer find refills, but I found Triple Edge to be longer lasting due to being compounded of silicone. They were avail from Wal Mart, K Mart and I think Auto Zone.
I believe this is similar to headlights, it is more profitable to make dedicated items.
I would like to see standard spark plugs, oil filters, brake pads and shoes etc., there could be a small, med and lg to satisfy a particular vehicle, if you cannot build to use one of these, then you cannot build. Just my opinion.

Try those Rain-x latitude blades. I like them cause they are nice a quiet. Worked well in the little bit of snow we have had. jeffcat

Main problem is that various mfgs each have proprietory designs and there is no"industry standard" for refills.Therefore mfgs would have to make and stock hundreds of variations.So instead most make an"adaptable" blade/squeegee combo and include a couple widgets to adapt it to fit YOUR wiper arm.Most buyers won't pay $25-$40 EACH for OEM blades at the Dealer.Many newer vehicles also use 2 different blade lengths,so packaged pairs are getting rare.A replacement aftermarket blade can be anywhere from $3-4 to over $40,so I shop,staying with recognized brands and away from"store brands".Generally I run Anco summer blades and switch to jacketed winter blades during snow and ice season.A lot of the real cheapie blades(imported and domestic)will rust and squeegees harden and crack from UV in almost no time.Then of course theres a whole industry in"miracle blades" such as doubles,triple-edge,and a new one(can't recall name)even now being hyped on TV as "BEST" :)
