I have several items needing paint. I do not have a compressor nor the funds to buy one at this time. Thinking of buying a Wagner Power Painter. Anyone ever used one? Will it work with automotive/implement type paints? Have also considered just using spray paint. Seems I would have to buy several cans. Main conern is to get a good even coat. Anyone ever done "large" items (tractors,plows,etc..)this way? Thanks for any responses.

I have a Wagner Power Painter (220) and need to purchase part no.0280031 - Enamel spray tip with guard M (Blue, 0.6mm). Please advise me where I can purchase this tip as I cannot find it in the area where I live.
Thank you very much for your help in this matter!

The only thing the Wagner is good for in my limited opinion is painting textured ceilings in the house. Then it is only a little better than a roller.

Painted a whole barn with white latex paint with a Wagoner. Lot like work. Worked OK, and the quart tank held about all I could reach from a given ladder placement. Do not recommend for other paints or finishing metals - tractors, cars, etc.

Been there, done that.

Short answer: The Wagner sucks.

Long answer: You've got to buy the right do-dads for the inside of the unit first. Then you've got to thin the paint way down beyond what the Wagner manual will tell you to thin it to. The gun spits globs of paint when that small tank is about 1/2 full.

David:
If you could get the things you want ready for painting all at one time, think you would be $$ ahead to just rent both compressor and spray gun. Use the price of a wagner gun to help offset rental fee. Else take the wagner $$ and apply towards an inexpensive spray gun.

A Wagner doesnt stand a chance, they barely work with house paint. Automotive Spray paint takes a deft touch in cans, but you dont want to use that on a tractor anyway. You can buy a cheap spray gun from harbor freight tools and borrrow a compressor.

I haven't used one but I don't think they will atomize the paint enough to get a good smooth finish. I would suggest going to Walmart and buying a $50 paint gun and renting a compressor.

Do these type of spray guns & compresser work for house paint on a building as well, or is it an either/or thing?

The wagner power painter will just make you angry. I spray paint class 8 trucks for International Truck and engine co. and have applied afew gallons of paint in my time. Buy a cheap gun and rent or borrow a compresser as the others have said. The finish (if you do your part) will be far superior to a spray bomb or the wagner apllied job. The wagner is also a pain in the can to clean.
