Why can't I buy a 63 mpg diesel Accord? EPA bans 70 mpg diesel cars available everywhere else for decades but here. The same EPA that wanted to increase mercury to make an additional 60,000 American children stupid per year.

The way your immoderate political opinions quickly degenerated into infighting, and then into name calling (with some of you making up the mob that calls out things to egg the others on) is exactly why the rules of this forum prohibit expressions of political or religious opinion. Breaking the forum rules to shout your opinions at the majority who agree to abide by the rules and come here only to offer or receive advice is as unfriendly as it is unfair.

What's more, it's pusillanimous. It's like deciding to attack a civilian target in a war zone because a military target will fight back. There's no shortage of forums that deal with political issues---but of course it's not as much fun to rant at people who are ready for you as at the totally unsuspecting.

It doesn't matter to me whether you are liberal extremists, conservative extremists, or any other kind of extremists---you extremists are all a bad lot. But the real issue here is following the rules versus breaking the rules. From now on, I'm going to complain to the forum moderator whenever anyone uses this forum as a soapbox to express opinions that are specifically prohibited by forum rules. I encourage everyone else who is tired of being exposed to opinions concerning prohibited subjects to do the same thing---every, single time, whether you approve of the opinion or not.

Considering the way the Clintons trashed the White House on their way out last time, I can't believe there are enough Americans stupid enough to think about giving them a second chance.

About the fuel mileage. I have a '92 Olds 88 with 213,000 miles on the clock. It's a fast, comfortable car loaded with options. If you push the right buttons, it will read out average fuel mileage on the driver info display. On a level stretch with the cruise set on 63, it will average 30-32 mpg. All around, it will get about 25.

Yet, if you read reports, new state-of-the art econobox Kias, etc., won't do any better. If GM could build a full size, comfortable car that gets that kind of fuel mileage 15 years ago, why haven't cars been improved on very much?

They have those milage readouts set to meet milage standards. Check your milage manually to see what you are really getting.

I apologize for the political tangent from my posting. I've got a similar 250k 89 Olds Supreme International with all the gizmos. Great car. They're still selling that 20 year old chassis except lower mpg. Vehicle have improved a lot since, we (US) just can't buy them.

because it's not about saving the enviroment it's about the pettey little goverment bueracrats getting more controll of your life.why do you think that the last 2 times companies have had to "improve" diesel engines to pollute less the fuel econemy has droped 5 -10% service intervals have had to be shortened up and the engine makers have had to d signifigant improvments just to get the engines to last almost as long.not to mention that this ULS diesel costs more to produce and there is less crude available to produce it from. oh sorry what I ment to say was TI'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. THE GOVERMENT KNOWS WHATS BEST FOR YOU. Diesels pollute to much and that causes more asthama in children so you can't have your 63 mpg diesel accord because IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN.

Since R--vs w---- passed an estimated 40 million have been done away with which would have made it a lot harder for the 12 millon(est)Undocumented)to find work here.Out of the est.40million there would have been some that would have not been declared disabled. CENTAUR

Well you can't tell me that W didn't sell out the country to line his pockets and the pockets of his oil company buddies. It's not the media telling us that the oil companies have had their biggest profits ever while the price of gas is killing us. The high gas prices have caused the price of hay and feed to rise so much that my outside job is supplementing my farm. Without it, my wife and I couldn't survive. I want someone to control the oil companies and corporate America. As much as I have respect for John McCain, I don't think his party will let him take control of corporate America. They get all of the tax breaks, while us middle class guys are paying to run this country. On top of that, Bush's agricultural policies only favor corporate farms, instead of us little guys. Like I'm saying, I'm ready to give the other guys a shot to make things better.

Toro, actually, on this point I agree with you. My farm is a business, and I employ several people on it as well. For the past year, gas prices have made my business unproiftable. I don't want to quit. So we have a lot in common, but our difference is who we blame for this mess. I agree that corporations need to make a profit, but not at the expense of the whole country's economy. In my opinion, the main problem with the economy is the oil companies' runaway profits. I think the dems will try to fix it. Only time will tell and prove which of us is right. And actually, if the economy is fixed, and I was proved worng, I'll be happy, as long as it's fixed.

It don't matter what party we are, really none is any better or worse than the other.

Someone always gets voted in to fill a position.

All of them just say what we want to hear at election time to get a vote, then when they get into office the big companys that really run our country step up and tell them how it's going to be!!!

Fuel mileage can & could be a lot better on all vehicles made, tires can & could be made to provide more mileage wear, replacement parts can & could be made to last longer, fuel prices can & could be MUCH less than what they are, the list goes on and on.

BUT if these things were ever offered to the buying public we would need to buy them a LOT less, therefore the BIG companys would not make as much profit as they have gotten used to.

Much BS in these posts.Heres the bottom line.Just a few years ago I was paying 100.00 a month for fuel oil,My repair shop was busy,my mail order book business was bringing in money.I was planing lumber and making door and window trim.Business is gone.I now pay 325.00 for fuel oil per month.My ss got an increase that amounts to 12 cents per day,my next check will buy oil pay the electric and phone bill and I will have 55.00 left.I told a friend that 3.00 oil would make me a pauper,it has.I drive little so the gas is not a great problem.The oil companies are stealing 200.00 a month from me,thats the bottom line.This is dragging every body down.When your customers are broke theses no business.
