I he"s using methanol I wouldn"t want to be anywhere close to those tires. Methanol has burn point (don"t know the correct term) of around 150*"s, those tires will reach that just setting out in the sun.

Only curious, are you using Methanol? You do know that methanol is corrosive, and will eat metal especially the brass in the valve?

I know personly a tire dealer who uses methanol, or methyl alchohol as its also known, straight from the drum to ballast his tires.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I think I'll do the gravity method. I would use T_Bone's vaccum idea, but my vaccum pump is a one mile uphill hike in three + feet of snow and I don't have a snow machine.

Maybe an air operated engine cleaning gun could be used? It uses the air to suction varsol or other liquids out of pails. Like T_Bone said, suction may be better than using pressure. If you don't need to add a lot, maybe a suction gun that is similar looking to a grease gun could be used? I use a big syringe with a length of small hose on it to take oil samples out of the dipstick hole on equipment. All of these are rather inexpensive. Dave

Send me an e-mail and I'll send you a page from a 1935 JD-B owners manual that will show you a few ways to do just what you want to do and theres a couple of them that you don't eve need a pump to do it

You don"t really need a pump. You can let gravity do it. Take a five gallon plastic bucket and put a fitting near the bottom that has a barbed end to put a hose on. Gempler"s sells a special valve for about $12 that lets the fluid in and the air out. Put he bucket on a ladder above the tire stem, attach the tube to the tire sstem and fill the bucket with fluid and go have a cup of coffee. The fluid will drain into the tire and you keep adding fluid till you get the tire filled to where you want it.
A guy name of old, who posts quite often, has written this method up and if you holler for him, he can give you some more specific info.

Use a barrel , drill a hole in the bung and put a tube through it long enough to reach the bottom of the barrel . Braze the tube to the bung plug. Connect a small rubber tube (air hose) to the tubing from the barrel. adapt the end of the hose to a small piece of tubing that will fit through the valve stem. The other bung plug could have a short pirce of tubing through so that you can apply air pressure. DO NOT OVER PRESSURE BARREL 5-10 psi is all that is needes. This way no pump is required.

Hi Bill,

I would reverse my thinking and use a vaccum. A standard vaccum will pull about 20"hg and then just let the fluid be drawn in.

If he's REALLY using methanol, and takes your vacuum suggestion, he may be in for a flaming surprise!

Hi Bob,

The Darwin award for Stupidity usually elimnates the severe mentaly challanged as your article suggests. Anyone that would run a flamable liquid/vapor thru a electric motor would surely fit into this class.

You pull a vacuum inside the tire then remove the vacuum pump source THEN the liquid is drawn into the tire via negitive pressure.

A vacuum cleaner used as a vacuum pump only creates the negitive pressure and is never in contact with the flamable medium.

Thanks for the heads up for the ones that can't/won't think for themselfs. :)

I use a 7 roller pto pump that dad uses for spray applications. Just run some oil through it when your finished. Dont see a problem with increasing the concentration as to much is better than not enough.
