I was recently given a Winco P205BH-1M generator. This an old small [handy] genset with a 5hp Briggs engine. The generator works fine, but the engine was run out of oil and set up. So I want to replace the engine and began to disassemble the unit and ran into a major snag. I don"t know how the armature is mounted to the crankshaft, keyed straight, tapered with key or threaded taper? I don"t want to damage anything trying to get it apart, and Winco is no help. They sent me an owners manual, nice but useless for my purposes. Beyond that they barely acknowledge the existence of that model. Any help would be much appreciated.

Pete,
If you have everything off except the stator, including long bolt at the end, get a big block of oak, lay it on the metal part on the side of the stator and smack it a good one with a big hammer. Do not hit it softly, lay the wood on solid steel and hit in hard! It should pop right off. Make sure you do not hit any plastic, because that would make stator useless. It has a straight tapered shaft with no key.

Tapered only, NO KEY. The way I remove them is to remove the center bolt, Tap the hole to 1/8 inch pipe. Install a grease zirt. Pump full of grease until you can not pump no more. Then let set over night. Some times it will be loose when you come back to it. If not try putting in more pressure with the grease gun. Then put a wood block against the rotor, on the steel part, and hit the wood block witha 2 LB hammer at a right angle to the line of the crankshaft and rotor.

Ok I'll give that a try. I have to admit that method is one I never would have thought of. Many thanks!

It should be a keyed tapered shaft. If you have to replace the engine, you will need one with the same spec. number. The crankshaft on the engine should be tapered.

Thanks, knowing what I am dealing with is half the battle. The other half is actually getting it loose. Anybody have any "secrets" to loosen it. I am hesitant to use a puller because I would be pulling against the windings.
