Bought this Torx driver set this morning at Lowe's. Gotta do some tin work in the front of Mama's old Sedan DeVille and everything is Torx. Looked at a set of these at Sears a few weeks ago and they were made in China and a dollar more expensive. Look at that red white and blue thing in the top right hand corner! Maybe Kobalt brand will spank Craftsman in the reasonably priced quality tool market now, these have the same warrantee as Craftsman and Lowe's is only a 6 mile round trip as opposed to a 48 mile round trip to Sears! Yeah Baby!!! Who cares who wins the super commercial...err...bowl! GO RAVENS!!

Just to update on the Lowe's Kobalt line, Kobalt is no longer going to be made by J.H. Williams (a division of Snap On). The new tools are to be made by Danaher. I have been told that the majority of the tools will be made to the exact same specifications as the older tools made by Williams. The new tools boxes are to be made by Waterloo. The tools boxes hit the stores next month. The tools arive sometime around april. I learned this when I called there customer service number, 1-888-3KOBALT.

LISTING OF SOURCES BY SOURCE NUMBER
For many products, the first three numbers of the Model Number (usually followed by a decimal point) indicate the actual manufacturer of the product. For instance 316.43234 is a cordless drill built by Ryobi. The following is a partial list of such numbers. see link

Danaher makes the following brands Allen, Armstrong, GearWrench, Holo-Chrome, K-D Tools, and Matco according to the Danaher web site. If you are an investor Danager is a really good company as they pride themselves on efficency. I worked for Fluke Biomedical another Danaher company.

Does it say U period S peroid A period? Or USA there is a differance I was told by a Wal-Mart manager of the tool department. They figured it out and some place overseas they have a town named USA. Or otherwise a small tract of land. Therefore they are giving the costumer what he wants. I don't have any reason to doubt the guy, but can not back this with facts. He hates China made stuff as much as I do.

There truly is a town named Usa in Japan, it predates the Meiji Restoration so it is just a coincidence. Even if they wanted to mark something Made in Usa federal law would require it be marked Made in Japan.

Kobalt is Lowe's.

Many years ago when Japan was making all the cheep tools, The contractor I was working for bought some made in Michigan, socket wrenches made cheep to compete with Japan. I wore out a 7/16 6 point socket.

The packaging was made in USA, tools were made in China. Just ribbing ya, but I've seen that on other products.

Getting way too hard to buy anything truly USA made. Just bought a Carhartt coat yesterday, big sticker says USA made, but when you look at actual label says assembled in Mexico of USA components. Guess it doesn't make much difference if the Mexican labor assembles it there or here though. Seems like all our businesses are out to send our jobs away and pay a less than living wage for the jobs still here. Who do they think is going to buy anything when no one here has any money? DOUG

I am soon in need of a new carhartt jacket. Last time I looked, about 2 years ago, they were not actually made in USA. So they are now?

If carhartt is out, what other work clothing can be bought made in USA? Any ideas.

You are wrong! Kobalt is a Lowes Trademark for tools. Made by whom?? I don't know. HD's brand of tools is Husky and Ridgid. They also are made by whom? I don't know. Do you?

Those Kobalt torx sockets are made by Danaher, just like the Craftsman. In fact, if you put the Cman and the Kobalt side by side, you will see that they are almost identical. I don't know this for a fact, but I am almost positive that S*K sells the exact same ones under the S*K brand also.

Where in Sears did you find any Craftsman torx sockets that were made in China????? Are you sure you weren't looking at their Companion line? To my knowledge, Danaher is still supplying Craftsman with torx sockets made here in the USA.

I know for a fact some the largest 3/4 drive Craftsman's sockets are made in China - I gave the counter man a some **** about it when I paid for them (Needed them and they had the only ones that big).

I looked the package over real careful like for something that said parts or assembled from somewhere else. Unless it said in one of the other languages on the package that I can't read, it must have been made here.

Eddie in MI is correct regarding the Craftsman and Kobalt brands; both are made by Danaher.

However, SK makes their own tools.

Husky brand is made by Stanley in Taiwan.
