My left turn signal has two2057 bulbs stop/tail; instead of both flashing together one flashes then the other at fast speed.when you hit the brakes one brakelight lights and the other loses both stopand tail filaments.Tried all new lamps but not a flasher [because the two lamp right signal is fine]

Hello Sportster.
You have a bad ground to the lights that are going off. Ground them from a good ground and I'm sure they will work.
The bulb should be an 1157 in there.
Guido.

I don't know how old a vehicle you're working on but on the newer ones the turn signal switch is now a "multi-function swich". My 06 Dodge truck would occassionaly blink left on right setting, etc. The switch was bad. It has only four wires but controls turn high/low, wash wipe, etc about 8 functions and does it by vaying the voltage in the same 4 wires. If the voltage is not exact then weird things happen.

Thanks gentlemen:The bad ground and seeking a ground through the other filament makes sense.I will also swap lamps from the working side as a lamp proper value test.Im going to work on it now. Thanks for the help.

dr sportster Just a thought,
Had a 87 Honda that had to have the right bulbs (from the dealer at the time and three times the $$$), the bulbs I had didnt have the right resistance. My older style bulbs were brass base; the new bulbs from the dealer had a silver base. It took a while to figure it out. Try the bulbs from the side that works, just in case they improved the bulbs again.

Mum"s Chrysler had three bulbs total on each side, 2 for the rear stop/turn and one at the front, when one of the rear bulbs holders went bad it would flash front and then rear alternately, weird until i found the holder was shorting out. Maybe the same thing here? Hope this helps. oj

I'll throw my 2 cents n here also. It is a bad ground. Could be in a connector or a broken wire. OLD hit it right, it can do weird things.

If you change both of the bulbs it will probly fix it.I just did that to my Chevy pickup a couple of days ago.You might even clean the bulbs and not change them,But I broke mine getting them out.

I know this is not helpful but this reminded me of a funny story I heard. 2 old brothers were tryin to get the turn signals workin on their old pickup. One was in the cab and he would turn the right signal on and ask the other if it was workin. The other brother replied "it is...it ain't...it is ...it aint

Most likely a ground in either one of them and then it back feeds to the other to pick up the ground. BTDT and found on one of them in my case the ground was bad and it will cause you to go crazy trying to figure it out.

I've re-read your post about 20 times and i'm having a series of confused spasms.

The one thing that I can tell you is that a bad ground for any light can cause some VERY strange things to happen. Check all grounds if you can.

..check for corroded quick connectors at the light and along the harness, if applicable.
