Have 1960's era Massey Ferguson 65 diesel. Used solely as a "shop tractor" at our business. Never used for field work. Has a loader and is used maybe 10 to 20 hours in the summer to load things or tow a truck into the shop. In winter is used with 3 point snowblower. 3 point is slow when it is cold. Supposed to use 80-90 gear lube. Would like to change trans. , rear end and 3 point to # 30 motor oil to have it more fluid in winter. Don't want to change oil with the seasons since it holds several gallons.

Anyone done this?

With such light duty I wouldn't think there would be a problem but I'm no expert.

Winter snowblower use is generally for an hour at a time at tempertures of 20 to -20 degress F.

Thanks, Lynn

Your owner's manual will usually give an option to use in cold weather. I've heard guys say they use 40W gear oil below zero. Since you don't want to change oil for each season, I'd stay with what the owner's manual recommends for cold weather. If the snowblower is PTO or hyd driven, the tractor hydraulics will be working hard and a light oil will not provide adequate protection.

I use Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic gear lube for exactly that reason and it works perfectly.

Excellent suggestion but.... how much does it cost?

Thanks, Lynn.
