I have a loader with a steel hydraulic line that needs replacing. Most of the other hard pipe appears to be in poor shape also, and I have thought about replacing it all. Since this could be somewhat expensive, I was wondering about doing it myself. I have never replaced the hard pipe before, I was want to know if this is a do-it-yourself job and the sources of some good tubing and fitting suppliers. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

About 15 years old I plumbed my loader with black pipe. I have no problems with it. Also you can makeup your own hose with reuseable ends. You need a vise, a hand grinder to cut the hose, and an impact wrench to screw the fittings on.

I had to replace one one GB loader this past year. I had our local hyd supplier fab the rigid line. The most expensive part was the fittings. The whole line was less than $30.00.
This was a 5' length with 4 bends in it. I've noticed the new loaders from GB use flex line every where.

Making custom hydraulic tubing requires special equipment and skill. Your local tractor shop may be able to do it or recommend someone who can. You can replace tubing with hose in some cases but even the best hose won't last anywhere near as long as new tubing.

I have a Case 480 extenda hoe. I have, had a hard line fail on the front end loader. I ended up doing as Unimog said and replaced with std. flex line. It has been a few years and still works great.

I had same problems one time with an old backhoe
and my fix, which was the cheapest, was to go to
regular hydraulic lines. I replaced them one at a
time as needed. Hydraulic shops can duplicate any
steel line you take them but it is costly and you
still need flexible lines at each end. I just made
up clamps and measured carefully and the lines
worked on the machine for years.

This is not for the novice! You're dealing with high pressure hydraulic fluid that can really do a lot of damage not to mention the damages caused by flying chunks of metal and fittings. Even low pressure systems 1000 psi and under can cause launch a good sized chunk of metal through a solid wooden door. The human body is not designed to take this kind of pounding.

I strongly suggest that you buy all new OEM or OEM approved parts. If parts are not available, you should enlist the services of a profession hydraulic fabrication shop to either manufacture the parts or just do the whole job.
