To argue my MasterLock thread from earlier this week a little further. I took the $15 made in Mexico Master locks back to Lowes and exchanged them for $7.00 made in China locks of exactly the same thing. Why should I pay "American made" prices for imported stuff? Just to make the corporate elite of an American company richer while they turn their back on American labor for the sake of profit? I looked at a new Milwaukee 4 1/2" grinder also, these as stated in the other thread are now made in Mexico.
I'm taking the tact now that if I look at some thing that bears a trusted American name and reputation, it had d**n well better be made in America. None of this 'assembled in Mexico with American made parts. If I'm having to buy imported stuff, it won't bear an American name. I will search out the cheapest Yokikamoti special I can find.
#1 daughter say's 'what difference does it make?' I told her she'll soon find out what difference it makes when she tries to find a job doing something besides flipping burgers for more than minimum wage.

If you do a detailed search about was tagged onto the NAFTA bill, everything will be clear to you. When NAFTA was being "sold" to the american public, the CEO of IBM, American Express, and countless other fortune 500 companies were financing the advertising campaign to sell the NAFTA treaty. Why?? Because they attached a rider to the bottom of the bill that let Corporations calculate how much you pay a person to end a company pension. It is a longterm vs shortterm rate thing - -details details. Anyway right after NAFTA passed, many companies stopped their pension plans, replaced with 401K only. They had to make deposits to the 401K equal to the value of the then current pension plans, and because of NAFTA, their deposits were about 30 to 40 percent less. That is why NAFTA passed - - corporate greed, and pais off polititions.
Now to make matters even worse, China is building an SUV manufacturing plant in Mexico, shere they can send them in to the USA market free of taxes under NAFTA. Our country is living on borrow time - - - maybe 15 years left for this democracy. Tom

Sometimes some legwork will turn up an american alternative. I need a lever operated manual grease gun for work. At home I have a Lubri-Matic. It is made in the USA. I went to the store, it is now made in China. I didn't buy it. I went in person, or online to a large variety of stores. Sears, AutoZone,Tractor Supply,Carquest,Rural King, and others, all china made. I know, I'll go to the John Deere store! Nope, china made. Lincoln? china. I finally found in an online search, Snap-On. Next time I see the Snap-On truck at a stop, I'll go in and plunk down $55 on a USA made grease gun. People talk a big deal, but in the end the dollar usually rules. I could buy an American named, made in china gun for $10 that would do the job, but I am getting stubborn about it. I am not made of money either. We are a 1 income family with 3 kids. I want my kids to have a future in this country. Manufacturing is not the only jobs this country has, but we cannot be a strong country without it. Not to mention the huge national security ramifications. If we are ever involved in another world war, we will be hamstrung without the manufacturing capabilities we used to have. I'll step down off the soap box now. Best wishes to all.

I agree.I was at a store today,sort of like an old Western Auto without the auto parts and groceries instead.They had a couple of buckets of screwdrivers like Western Auto used to.Flat 89 cents,Phillips 89 cents.Picked up one of each,looked at the tag on it,made in China?We cant even make screwdrivers?As I looked around in there just about everything in there was made in China.Shovels,hammers,tools,camping equipment,chain,and just about anything a store like that has. Im tired of the excuses,the reason this stuff is made in China is slavery.Thats not so hard to figure out. People in this country cry if you charge them 5 cents a mile more than slave driving truck companies to haul something.Then if the price of fuel doubles,I am expected to take the loss out of my pay.Brokers dont buy fuel,but they take more of the profit when fuel is high.Everybody and everything is designed to make working people slaves with brand x running things. I cant see this bunch leave fast enough,and hope brand x never is allowed to run anything in this country or the world again.In 15 or 20 years brand z will be just as bad and need brand x again?Nope we need brand a or something.Brand x needs discontinued,end of story.No argument just throw these pieces of trash out for good.Put them on a rock pile somewhere building a statue of something that looks like a Sphinx and with Nixons head on it.Then they need to bury it like toxic waste.A reminder of what we never need to live through again.Cover it over with concrete and try and forget about it.

I was in Sears Saturday, and, thinking about this
thread, looked at Craftsman electric tools,drills,
etc. MADE IN CHINA !!! I suppose that they import
shiploads of plastic pop bottles to melt down
and recycle for the cases!!!

My purchasing preferences are for goods made in 1.USA,
2. Canada,
3 Mexico, 4 Germany, 5.England, .
other European (NOT Russian), Taiwan, South Korean, Japan (NEVER COMMUNIST Vietnam), etc.
Money put into Mexico MIGHT keep a few of the illegal alien criminals (at least some of the more honest ones) in Mexico.
Communist China is under pretty much the same managment that provided enemy combat troops that our guys fought in direct battle starting in WWII through Korea and the Vietnamese War. Onl a few years back they intentionaly crashed one of their MIGs into one of our observation planes over international waters and then kidnapped and illegaly held our aircrew. They are still helping kill our freinds, brothers, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers with their wide spread sales and outright gifts of weapons and munitions to our enemies. Not counting the current border skirmishes with our mexican "pals", we are working on 100 years since we had open war with them. Our Canadian freinds and allies have covered our northern border "tookass" since they were given semi independance from the bloody Brits.
Please think long and hard before you spend money giveing aid and comfort to our Communist Chinese enemies.

cant blame it all on NAFTA. As Americans our work ethic in general has went to He11.

Everyone wants top dollar but no one is willing to give a honest days work for a wages received.

you cant show up to work at starting time and spend the next 15 minutes drinking you coffee, eating you donut, changing into your uniform, going to the bathroom and then starting work only to have a 15 minute paid break at 9:45 which you will drag out to 20 minutes.

I wont even rant about lunch and afternoon break or lining up at the time clock waiting for it to click 4:00, 5:00 or what ever your quiting time is.

Work attendance is another thing. A guy will walk 1500 miles from a jungle to come to work but the guy living 3 miles away cant show up on time if at all.

People in other countries and the ones sneaking across the border want to work and being hired over the average joe not because their working cheaper but because they are more productive.

Just my experiences the past several years.

Nafta, unions, the goverment(EPA,IRS,ect,ect) and our poor work ethic all are part of the problem.

Well I guess you think that was the only thing he could do?This is what happened-unions got weaker.I said among others and Clinton wasnt the working mans friend because of Congress.There is plenty wrong with both sides,but the side that is destroying unions is real easy to see who it is,regardless of what they did individually. Actually unions have to have some blame for causing the problems,but I think if you study it,the same people are involved by buying thier way into a position to tear up unions even further.I think this started under Nixon.Nobody in this country can say that thier life has not been made better by a union if they work for a living.If you want to have a country like China, get rid of the unions and have slave labor.That didnt fly real well the last time.I dont think it comes down to a name of a political party as much as it comes down to corruption because of money in politics.Its getting worse,and the weak ones are on that side.They are bought to represent corporations.Corporations dont care about human beings.When you start thinking like the corporation there is something wrong.You start thinking you are better than others,or part of an exclusive club that can get what you want by doing the corporations will?Just how is it that works?If working people were better off without unions,there wouldnt be any unions.If you had to work in a factory,you would much more want to work in a USA union factory than a slave labor one in China.So if you are right,we need to get rid of unions?No we need to fix unions problems.People with money that act like they do now are not going to solve any problems,they are going to make it worse.I dont care what you call yourself,if you cant figure out what I just said then you need to go live in China for a while maybe,and work in a slave labor factory and then report back on how well you liked it.By the way,how has your "opinion"improved the China junk problem we now have?I think we need improved unions,and politicians that arent bought out by corporations.Its all happened before,and it took great people to make the change.Theodore Roosevelt and the corporation busting under his administration.Among others.

I agree 100% with Rob. Guy puts a blank in a CNC machine and pushes a button. He doesn't program the machine or sharpen the cutters but he's a machinist at $30 an hour. That plant just closed.

All the farmers are selling out on my road. Housing going up selling for 4-500,000. House goes up, swing set in the back yard, two months later a for sale sign.

People expect more pay than they're worth and they've just got to have the big new house with a BMW, a Toyota SUV and a 50" Samsung flat screen TV.

Judging by the political tone on this thread, we should probably have the government bail all their sorry a$$es out. That's what the left wants to do. Buy some more votes.

Another idea is for you to open your own "Made in America" store next to Walmart and Harbor Freight.

Don't get me wrong, I try to buy American when I can. Got GM vehicals in my yard.

I worked hard in the factories I worked in.You are allways going to have good workers and bad workers.Every Mexican that comes across the border,or anybody else for that matter,from any country,all of them arent good.There is sad sacks in all bunches.The biggest thing wrong with unions is what Reagan and others did to them.Clinton wasnt especially the working mans friend with 6 of his 8 years controlled by Newt Gingrinch in congress. Nafta was a big mistake,but somebody should have done something about it by now. The big thing is nobody in government is taking responsibility for their screw ups.They all point the finger at somebody that may or may not have been responsible for it.None of them have been representing us,they have represented their bank account. I dont see why we put up with it,I did vote for Ross Perot the first time.He was the only one that was going to do something it seemed like at the time. The way things seem like they are going its not going to get better either.Elections rigged,lying politicians,and news media thats just as bad as the politicians.

What exactly did Reagan do to the unions? Are you refering to the illegal air traffic controllers strike which he told the strikers return to work and end their illegal strike or lose your jobs?

What's sad is I really doubt master lock or milwaukee really cares and most likely 50% or more of their company is now foreign owned by foreign investors or a foreign bank.

There is a way that Master and whoever else would care.Slap them with an import tax.I dont see how you can make anything in China,put it on a boat and bring it here and sell it for less than it can be made here?Those boats burn fuel,or do they have China slaves rowing the boats over the ocean too?Knowing that China slaves are making this junk,why are we putting up with it?You have a hard time finding shoes made in America,Levis,anything?What does that do to all the people that did make this stuff?Unemployed?You cant believe anything on the news any more.There is probly 25% unemployment instead of 5%.If you count people with college degrees driving trucks and flipping burgers,its probly 75% underemployment.

I remember him saying that ! I loved his charts and graphs too. Too bad he never had a chance to get in. I think he would of really shook things up. At least he was going to do it without pay too and that would of saved US alot of money right there.

sad part you are not going to buy much that is made in usa anymore. Spent a whole day trying to get an american coffee pot no dice closest I came was aBunn on net ad but it wasa 2000 ad and they were out. maybe flipping burgers will be better than slave labor that is filling our shelves and CEO,S I feel for the younger generation

Wal mart just opened a MEGA store close to where I have my garage. It is just one mile from the General Motors assembly plant in Oshawa, one of the highest rated plants in the world. The union is always crying "buy American or Canadian". The joke of it is, Wal Mart is lined up out the door with the wives of these GM workers buying Chinese made products built by non union workers.
