I've collected a handfull of Mag-Lite aluminum flashlites from yard sales etc., and most have lite to heavy corrosion inside at the bottom from leaking batterys. Is there a common chemical that will dissolve this stuff , and not damage the anodizing on the barrel ?? I'm using drills and force to remove the batteries , but maybe there's a better way..... ..

I just clean out the inside of the flash light with acid etch. Alodine, zinc chromate prime, let dry and put in new batteries.

I have an old Kel Lite aluminum flashlight. Batteries leaked and corroded inside. I cleaned out the barrel and painted inside with yellow epoxy polymide primer. Zinc chromate would also work. Just make sure to leave the end cap threads and spring unpainted for electrical contact.

Aerosol automotive battery cleaner, citric acid like in soda pop, or common warm water and baking soda. Corrosion has already damaged the annodizing but you can protect it with silicone product or petroleum jelly like others mentioned or even gun bluing dye and oil coat.

That's happened to me too. I use inertia to get the batteries out.
I also sent a maglite to Duracell after the batteries popped. They sent me a check to cover it, and a some vouchers for new batteries.

If you use Durecell, Everready or Ray-O-vac batteries they will replace/repair for free if a battery leaks. There warranty says if the battery is stuck in it we will fix it.

You should try some citric acid. This usually cleans up aluminum to where it's bright.

Once you get that sucker clean, coat it with grease. I coat my batteries with vaseline, ends too, and then install them. Keeps the corrosion at bay.
