I've posted here only a few times, but see a lot of good common sense coming from folks who leave the 'uppity' part of their personality in the "real world", for the most part. Good friendly, helpful people. Hey, no one's perfect, right? ;) Just read Dean's response to my comment about keeping the attitude at home. Obviously, I can pull the attitude, as well, but it is in response to those that can not 'stoop' to the level of the non-professional. Being an electrical serviceman, communication with the customer is far more difficult if I slip into 'tech speak' when plain words, where not as precise, will serve the purpose. The attitude of superiority can lose more customers than one of finding common ground and then helping one to understand, providing they want to understand. Many folks are just happy things work when someone else said it could not be done. Thanks for the insights and good info and I look forward to reading more of the same in the future. Later..... ..

You can't win!

Jack of all trades and master of none. or the professional

A person who knows a great deal about a very little.

The main thing is that if you think you can and don't give up, you might, if you thing you can't you won't.

Who said anything about not wanting to make an attempt to figure something out? Not I. My job requires me to look at some one-off ways of getting a job done. The point was that the condescending attitude reflected in that 'gentlemans' reply was being used as a means of putting himself on a pedastal, and in his opinion, lack of specific knowledge on a given subject is the same as stupidity. He may be 'self-taught' but someone had to write a book, create an instruction manual, and a variety of other documents so HE could learn - just like the rest of us.
