Hello, Iam considering purchasing HVLP paint equipment. I want to primarily paint tractor parts and occasionally a whole tractor. Does anyone have any recommendations. I have seen the guns/canisters for sale that I presume I hook up to an air compressor? Are they very hard to use, do they provide superior results, are they hard to clean-up??? Right now I do alot of painting using aersol cans. Thank you !

My first question for you is how big is your air compressor, most paint guns take alot of air >10cfm. Also how much are you going to use it, if it will only be used ocassionally a cheaper gun will work but if it will be used regulary I suggest a better gun. A lower end HVLP gun will start around $150 and range up to $550. I have a Sharpe Platinum gravity feed HVLP gun, it cost about $345 but it is a professional quality gun and gives very good results. The Platinum uses 7.5cfm, the lowest useage good guns that I've seen. Below is a link to the site I bought my gun from, there is also a good discussion forum on this site where you could get gun recremendations from guys who use lots of different guns. A good paint gun will give much better results than a rattle can, and are pretty easy to clean up. Buying paint in quarts or gallons will save alot of money and the spray gun will be much more flexible.

I recently purchased a HVLP gun to paint pedal tractors with, i recommend them to anyone. You hook them to your compressor, you'll want a moisture trap and a regulator at the gun. for mine turn the pressure down to about 15 lbs. They clean out real easy, just run some thinner through them. the results are amazing, hardly any overspray. Tony
