glennster..

I had a toilet once and it did exactly what yours did. You mentioned that when your removerd the toilet, it drained fine, so then the lines are clear.
I had a toilet made in mexico that was substandard. Bought a new one URC, and worked like gangbusters too. I like the Kohler line and wellworth is a good model. Limit is 1.5 gallons now due to ordinances, but hey, the law is the law. I know that the older, five gallons were the best. They work on siphon, and with alot of water, they work great . It doesn't tkae MUCh to block one, they work on siphln.

Hey Glenster
You have to inspect the line from the house to the septic tank. There is a T before the tank with a cap on it a foot or so from the cover. Look in there if you may find that grease has accumulated and it will take a couple of flushes or so and than it will back-up.
You can easly see if that is the problem and then make a tool with a rubber flap the size of the opening and clean it out. This is just another place to look..... .... Good Luck!
Guido.

Do you have a septic tank?
How long since it's been pumped?
I had your problem, hadn't pumped for 3 years, thought I was saving money. I now have the septic
guy come every year--no more problems.

You need a pretty big cutter for a 3 or 4" sewer line. If you're only running the 3/4" spring end it could go thru the blockage but will only leave a small hole. What did you pull out on the end? Hair? Tree roots? Nothing? Check the toilet again.

Partial blockage of the line (snake fit through, but not toally open) so the small drains will flow, but the big one won't. I vote for this one since the other drains gurgle when flushing.

Partial blockage of the toilet. I hear a lot of hidden stuff can be in the trap you think is clear.

TAKE THE TOILET OUTSIDE AND FILL THE TANK AND FLUSH IT IF THE WATER FILLS UP THEN IT`S IN THE TOILET.

What kind of water do you have? Is there alot of calcius? I know this is one that's hard to believe, but a friend of mine went thru a simular ordeal a while back. He finally spoke with a plumber who told him the toilet had a lot of build up. He (after a few more weeks/months) bought a new toilet and the problem was solved. We broke the toilet open and it was as the plumber stated and had a lot of the buildup. Just a thought, and is kind of hard to believe.

Good Luck with the repair of the most important seat in the house.

Jim

I ran into this at my mothers house after mom moved out. Faught this toilet with plumbers for thirty years. I was redoing the bathroom before we (wife and myself) moved into the house. Took the toilet outside and chipped away from the bottom side and some of the buildup was 1/2 inch thick. We haven't lived their for 6 years, my brother does now, and that thing still flushes better than it did the first 30 years of my life.

Sounds to me that you may still have a partial clog in the line to the septic. I had a similar problem a few years back. Toilet was slow to flush and the gurgling sound in the bathtub. I did the sewer auger thing and thought the problem was solved, within a couple days back to square one. Frustrated I had a guy with a camera come out, looked through the pipe and could hardly tell the auger had been through there. Followed his recomendation of replacing the clay sewer line with PVC and have not had a problem since. Not sure if you have clay or pvc, but just a thought. Not much worse than having a toilet that doesn't work right.

I would pull the lid on septic tank and distrubition box. That will give you a idea whats going on. If you have a cleanout you could open it up first see if it comes out the clean out when you flush. Hope this helps.

Something is stuck in the trap in the base of the toilet.Use a snake if you have one.If not try a plunger.Good luck.
