I'm no fan of Gov't either, but is more regulation the answer? Seems to me if we'd stop paving everything is sight so the water could seeps back into the ground it would help. People can collect rain water off their roofs if they put the effort into it. Grey water can be used in many applications. It's a matter of changing your thought process a bit. Doing our best to channel all run off into the nearest storm drain doesn't work. Fact is, recovering all that run off and processing it would probably be a good business to get into.

Here in Pa., they have been talking about putting meters on our wells and charging for the water we use. I think what we need is an old fashioned revolution.

When global warming melts the polar icecaps all
that water will fill these aquifers back up. Thanks

Hi Balatonm,

What happened to when water was free is that we treated it like anything that's free---like the goal was to use it up as quickly and carelessly as possible. Even today, the average domestic (i.e. not including industry, agriculture, or energy production) water consumption rate in the U.S. is 100 gallons per person, per day.

Ask T_Bone how deep he had to drill to get water in the Phoenix area from the last well he drilled compared to the first well he ever drilled there.

Under total self-regulation, humans seem to prefer the steal-what-you-can-and-burn-the-rest attitude toward natural resources. I'm no fan of government regulation but it's hard to think of another way to deal with the impending water crisis. Should we step back, urge responsible voluntary usage, and hope for the best? What happens then when the aquifers are totally depleted and the groundwater is totally poisoned---we look for something else to use?

All the best, Stan

Cool technology, I'd love to have one of those torch setups. I'm sure within a year or two some major oil company will buy the rights to his product and we'll never hear of it again.

Or....Gm or Ford may buy this technology if it works. GM and Ford would make a fortune if they bought the licence and made all their cars/trucks run on this. Big cars and trucks would be back full circle. And then tell those *amn Arabs to pound sand.

Its my understanding that there are counties in California that have meters on private (including home) wells, and the users/owners get billed for usage. To me, that beats all. Talk about money for nothing, that's the epitome. But then again, are 4 states that are trying to put GPS on all vehicals and bill for usage/milage, and the feds have toyed with doing the same nationally. New cars with free onstar service for a year? Well, since its already setting there and humming away, someone oughta get some use out of it and then send the bill to us.

Its not gonna do any good to drill a well in our area anymore anyway. Within a few miles the oil companies are opening a NEW salt dome. They are in the process of drilling disposal wells now, thus the problem. For those not in the know. They drill the salt dome and then pump water into the well and wash out a cavity to store natural gas, this used water or "brine" is the problem, it is disposed of into the disposal wells. Unlike giving a person a shot at the doctor. The salt and water is injected into the ground. Now we are assured that no damage will come of this to our water supply, but where is all that salt going to go. I may be wrong, and sure hope so, but..... .

You can look this site up on the web, do a google for the New Home Salt Dome in Mississippi.

Can't drill irrigation wells in the western part of Nebraska now.

Plus, you can only pump a total of 65" of water in any 4 year span. :>(

Here in Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, the coal miners are taking out the last of the coal, and ruining the water wells that folks who live in the back country depend on. Its got some folks lovingly caressing their 12 guages! And, they have ruined lots of trout streams, holed several large lakes and ponds so they no longer hold water! Several families have had to stand and watch their centuries-old homes fall apart, because they mined the coal underneath them. The coal company came and propped the house up with some unsightly sticks, all to naught! And then went away, saying the folks had best move out, because they did just what the rules said they had to do.
