This might be off topic, but I have been looking at a 3 point hitch for my ATV. I was wondering if anyone ever tried using a 3 point on a large 4x4 ATV. There are a couple of companies producing them. One is Koplin adn the other is Cycle Country.

I have a Polaris 425cc quad. This machine is barely able to plow snow over 8" deep. I wouldnt put a 1/2 a$$ rear 3 point assembly on it thinking it could plow dirt or dig into gravel and grade it. A quad simply doesnt weigh enough. My quad weighs 700 lbs, with snow blade and me sitting on it it might weigh in at 950 lbs. But still isnt enough to push heavy snow over a foot deep. If Polaris or Yamaha want to make a quad that does work they need to lower the gearing in it and offer a solid gear transmission instead of the mickey mouse gizmo that is on the quads now. And beef it up to 1100lbs (minimum.) Just my 2 cents, dont bust up your quad by trying to make it plow dirt.

The concept kinda gives me the shivvers. Not that I'm any kinda radical safety nut,but the machine is not designed for it by any means.Hundreds of folks have been injured by improper or ignorant use of legitimate 3 point hitches and with the penchant most wheelers have for flipping,I'd be very leery of hanging iron off the rear or trying to use a ground engaging mounted implement.Swisher,I believe and Agrifab make a 3point hitch"trailer" for single point hitch use. I could be way off base, just thinkin, theres a lot of things in history, that originally sounded like a great idea, that have since become scrap,or lie rusting in the weeds. ):
By the way, someone makes a Cat 1-2 three point for truck hitch recievers too.

My opinion is... that a lot of things are made that are not practical. But, when it is a small market item to begin with, it takes quite a while for everyone to realize the situation.

This sounds to me like one of those deals. I've seen guys tear up a $5000 atv, trying to do what a $500 tractor would be just right for.

my opinion is they are made for transportation or hauling a sm wagon. Put a 3 pt hitch and ask for more than what they were designed for and expensive repair bills will soon be sent your way. this from a guy who buggered up a gear box using a honda to tow a york rake
