Wife had bought some goggles for the kids to have for shop class at school. Finally came time to dig them out for class I grabbed a pair and looked at the package "Not for Safety Use" or something like that. What in the world would you use a full coverage goggle for if not for safety ? a fashion statement ?

Just another of the not so fine products from China ! I am getting fed up with everything saying China on it ! They have no regulations on what they make unlike EVERYTHING made here that is way overregulated.

Human waste? Milorganite from Milwaukee sanitary district has heavy metal content precluding it from use on veggie gardens- flowers and field use only warning. Europe? The term 'London Clay' refers to composted human waste without heavy metals- is about like a sanitary truck collecting from porta johns source- not from industrial sewer mix. French and Germans also some some composted human waste mix for garden use- is their Organic labeled product. RN

With regard to Marlow's comments about foreign food products, I believe I am correct, in saying that the US is the only country in the world that forbids the use of human waste as fertilizer. Do they know something we don't?

Unless this has changed in the last 10 years we used to use it in wisconsin. Had to be injected and it really did work good too. Just cause its human waste it still has to go somewhere so where does it go if not to fertilizer.
Have you guys ever seen Milorganite fertilizer. Its made from human waste.

I know all of Europe does not allow human waste as fertilizer. Been that way for decades.

China is still building steam locomotives so they must have quality tools. What about their tanks, passenger and fighter planes, cars, factories, etc? They just export the low quality stuff, but eventualy it will improve to where the price will have to go up. Just like Japan, then South Korea, then Taiwan. Who's next?

I recently purchased one of those articulating workbench mounted lamps with the magnifying glass. It was cheap and against my better judgment, made in China, but the "UL Listed" label on the box gave me a warm fuzzy.

Got it set up on the bench and was happy to find a grounded outlet on the base of the lamp Next day I was using the lamp with a small drill plugged into this outlet. Went to move the lamp and found out the metal frame was hot (electricity). I thought "Good job UL".

Took a quick look at the lamp and noticed that the lamp had only a two pronged plug to plug the lamp in, yet the outlet on the base was a three prong grounded outlet. Good job UL!!

Read up on UL and their certification process. Turns out that companies only pay a yearly fee, then they are able to certify products themselves, all with no oversight. Also learned that there are around 9,000 Chinese manufactures that are in the UL program in China, yet UL as no office in China.

Brought lamp back.

A few days ago a friend of ours forwarded pictures of cheap sandals sold at Walmart, made in China. Along with that are pictures of peoples' feet after wearing those sandals. The Chinese used a chemical that caused ugly rashes where the straps contacted their skin. Who knows what's in the plastic in the glasses you bought.

THINK VITAMINS. Almost all are made in China.Does that scare you? That includes the stuff that gets fed to your farm livestock, dogs, cats, kids etc etc.Everything that says Vitamin C, E etc added more than likely came from China. Its time to think about growing your own food.Lead paint could be minor to where this could lead.

Question for everyone here. Do you believe the stickers, tags, or label that made in USA actually means that. The answer is NO!! I know this for a fact! The product is made somewhere else and assembled here and the company has a right to do that the way the law is set up. Don't you think that's misleading. I do give credit fo some companies that label it as being assembled in USA.

With regard to Marlow's comments about foreign food products, I believe I am correct, in saying that the US is the only country in the world that forbids the use of human waste as fertilizer. Do they know something we don't?

My girlfriend is Asian (Malaysia) and managed an Asian food business in a mall food court. Occasionally I would get stuck going to the wholesale grocery to pick up all of the supplies, bags of rice, frozen shrimp, Styrofoam containers, and all the other goodies, sauces, etc. The wholesaler, a huge business, was owned by a Chinaman, and all the office workers were Asian. The shrimp was always US gulf coast harvested. I recall this because quite a bit of it came from a packer in Beaumont, TX. I was born in Port Arthur. Frozen foods cost too much to ship from overseas.

If it was not for Chile and Peru we would be lacking in certain produce such as onions in the off season, their growing season being opposite of ours, gives us fresh produce in the winter. I still miss my Vidalia onions however.

Its a great big huge world out there, and we are part of it. While I used to be and to some extent still am, an isolationist, I realize that we have to deal with the rest of the world. We simply need to be more particular about how we spend our money as far as product quality goes.

I believe that is "Organic" standards. Sewage sludge is injected into farmland, you can't follow it with produce because of concern of contamination. Testing is required to insure that heavy metal levels from manufacturing are within limits

We had a big fight in our county a few years ago concerning sewage sludge and the water table.

Hi Joe,

When you say "START WITH CLINTON" you're making a political statement, and political statements don't belong on this forum. There are people who feel just as strongly as you do but disagree with you 100%. All it accomplishes to make a strong statement about politics, religion, etc. on this forum is to reduce the good feeling that we get from helping, and being helped by, each other. I've been guilty of more than my share of it in the past, but I now believe that all it has accomplished is to make a lot of good people uncomfortable. I think we should all stop doing that.

All the best, Stan

whither you disagree or not -- we have freedom of Speech in the USA --- if you don't like opinions and are uncomfortable --- move to China....

I can see that an appeal to civility is not going to get anywhere with you. My mistake, my waste of time.

There are some limitations on freedom of speech in America. Shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater is the classic example of speech that is not protected by the First Amendment. Posting content that is specifically prohibited by the rules of a private forum is another form of speech that the Supreme Court is not going to back you on. You can probably get away with it because most of the people who post here are too nice to to want to make a fuss. It doesn't go unnoticed, though.

Hi Joe,

Well, what I was talking about specifically was something that was against the rules, not against the law. The rules of this forum are that contributors not use it as a soapbox to discuss politics, religion, etc.

As to the matter of our government not using Common Sense to help the people of this nation, I don't think it's a lack of Common Sense; I think we individual citizens don't own the government anymore. Government now belongs to whoever can afford it, and big corporations can afford it better than anyone else. Now that's talking politics.

All the best, Stan

It is pretty simple. "Made in China" is a three letter phrase which really means one word, "CRAP"! I have gotten to the point where, if there is anyway of knowing if something is "made in china", I will refuse to buy that item. Really pisses off the auto parts stores in my area. If I buy a wheel bearing for instance, I make them open the box and see where it is made. If it says, "made in china", it doesn't go out the door with me.

That"s exactly my feeling. I read "Made in China" as "Do not Buy". Quality concerns all asides, I"d rather buy something a neighbor made than something made in a foreign country. I"ll spend more for "Made in USA" not simply for patriotism, but because my state and country do better when we are all employed.

When I had my towing business I received many catalogs in the mail for towing equipment. The Chinese-made stuff all had a clause saying, "Not for use where human safety is concerned." My question is, is there a situation likely to come up where safety of your workers or customers is no concern to you? The Chinese stuff should be marked with, "Use this dangerous crap because we don't care about human life and neither should you."

Most Chinese products are imported for the sole purpose of getting your money. Neither the makers, nor importers care one bit about the safety, or quality of the so-called "Goods". Mattell toys is a good example.. Greed motivated them to buy the toxic toys from China, but now they have ruined the name that they spent decades building up..

May want to step back at where you are pointing your finger.

If you were looking for ansi spec safety goggles and bought a pair that were for nuisance problems only, and did not carry an ansi spec.. then seems the problem was not china.. but was with the person who bought the items.

If they were incorrectly labled with an ansi spec on the packaging, but then disclaime dit on the inside.. that would be different.. however sounds like your story is akin to the guy that sends his wife to the store for hole milke and she comes back with 1%, and then you get mad at walmart because she bought the wrong milk.

I'm not defending china.. just making sure blame is inthe correct direction.... got to be fair...

If China made safety claims for the glasses, then you'd probably be protected by our laws, but by putting the disclaimer on them--they're home free! And, if you don't want a proliferation of chinese junk stuff being sent here for sale at cheap prices--just remember--it takes much study and engineering to make safe products--and makes the products cost much more! Best way to protest cheap imports is--don't buy them! Many years ago, i worked as an auto body man, in a local Jeep dealership. When Jeep went to metric bolts, etc., i had to buy new tools. With the low wages i was making there, a $50 set of sockets was out of the question, but i did manage to cough up $30 for some sets of sockets, made in Taiwan. These were quality tools! I still use them to this day! Now, China is selling tools, not of the same quality, and much cheaper.

China gets everybody. It's getting hard to find things made in the USA. You are right Taiwan is better quality. I just bought a gas cap for my Ford 5000 (made in china). Shut me down in the middle of skidding logs. The gasket material was not compatible with gas, it broke off fell into the tank, and plugged the shut off valve. Lesson learned.

Don't get me wrong about what I'm about to say, I am in no way in favor of Chinese products.

Back in early 1800's in the beginning of industrial growth, Andrew Jackson was getting a bad time about that. Many people believed that industry making products was going to be the downfall of the nation. Example, the shoe factory put many local shoe maker out of business.

Well we survived and I sure hope we can somehow survive these jobs leaving.
