Weren"t they made by SMC, (Sanborn Mfg. Co.) in Sanborn, MN? If you"re going to weld a patch on it- do the bottom third of the whole tank. Or buy a couple portable air tanks, plumb them together. Or use the air tanks from a semi truck.

I have a Sanborn that sprung leak after 5 years of use and I drained the tank after every use. When I looked for a replacemnt tank it was more than the cost of a new compressor. I found a generic tank a couple of years ago and I am in the process of converting it over to take the old two stage compressor. Found the tank at Surplus Center in Nebraska. $129 plus shpg.

Do you happen to know how old it is? The reason I ask this is a neighbor bought a new Sanborn 2 HP about twenty years ago, and six months after he bought it the tank blew up. Luckily no one was around when it happened because it literally blew the shop apart. Windows were blown out, doors blown open and tools scattered all over the place.

They don't live far from the factory so they took it back and suddenly there was a recall on that model. They never did say what the weakness was.

I just want to give you a little heads up. Maybe if it's lasted this long it's OK. Jim

Think I'd try welding it first before I bought another.

New ASME tanks cost a mint. Not worth it for an older unit. Try to score a good used tank with a big enough saddle to accomodate your pump and motor.

Believe Coleman took over Sanborns holdings several yrs ago and now owns the name.Try a Google search for "Sanborn Parts" or "Coleman Compressor Parts".
If you have the manual/Partslist,also try Google search for the tank Part No.
