I go with Ken. If your brother wants to plow, he needs to get something that's built for it. Putting a plow on a Montero would be a classic example of "accelerated depreciaton". It would be a quick way of wrecking a Montero. That being said, I think it would be possible to deploy airbags while plowing. The generally accepted figure is that it takes a 14 mph impact to deploy airbags. And even though the blade on a plow is spring loaded to collapse forward if you hit something solid, there are still times when you hit something frozen just right to stop the truck in its tracks. I have a plow on an old '78 Chevy 4x4 pickup out on the farm. It amazes me the abuse that old Chevy has survived. However, a Montero is nowhere near as indestructable as those old Chevys. If your brother was plowing and hit something hard enough to deploy the airbags, he's probably also totalled the Montero. And, guess what? Warranties and insurance normally don't cover damage to a vehicle caused by a snow plow on the vehicle. Unless a vehicle is equipped with a factory installed plow package, usually the mere presence of a plow on a vehicle is enough to void the warranty for at least any power-train problems.
