I thought I got lucky when I found this ratchet in a box. The drive is .275, which is 7mm, istead of being 1/4 inch. I don't know anything about this wrench at all.

The snapon web site shows a replacement part for the 1/4 drive, for $10.00, but nothing for the M-70M. The diagram shown appears to be the same for what I have, would I be able to order this part and convert it to 1/4 drive? Thank you SDE

I have read about the milatary specing 5/8 rachets in the 50's and 60's, with the idea that they would not be stolen as often.

The M is for military. I got a snap on guy to repair one of my two and said after the first one that the M one's have no warrenty for military tools. He was a sore butt dealer. Nuff said.

You ***MAY** have a ratchet that was made for the military. I had one once. Since it could not be used with 1/4 inch sockets, they weren't stolen as much.
With the "M" in the number it may well be.

I had an old Snap-on 3/8" ratchet that broke when I was still a line mechanic at a dealership. I gave it to my Snap-on rep and he handed me a new one. I told him I didn't want a new one and could he fixe my old one. He did and I still have it. He wanted that old ratchet.

Chances are no. Repair parts for something that old are no longer made or stocked. You have a ratchet that may be of value to a collector of Snap on tools but, little else.

What you have there is almost certainly an old 9/32"-drive tool from the 1930s. That would convert to .28125...

Long since obsolete, but very cool!

snap on is a mobil outfit, their trucks come to most towns auto shops once a week or so, you need to visit one, find out when the truck will come, or where it is, and take your ratchet with you, they may have the part on the truck, if not they will know where to get it, or might exchange it for a more common one for you

My B-I-L has a repair shop. I intend to have them talk to the REP. when he stops by. I do not want to find out that this is worth more, the way it is, than if I convert it to 1/4.

I would hate to have someone take advantage of my not knowing what it may be worth and trading a $47.00 ratchet for this one, if it is worth more than that.
Thank you
SDE
