I have no fire from the coil. No short to frame. Does the coil go bad or does the pick-up under the flywheel fail? I have been told this is a discontinued item from factory. Is there an aftermarket available? Thanks in advance!

coils do go bad. The usually fail instantly & forever. Since no chain saw maker makes their own coil, the coil is an off the self item that NAPA or someone could get for you. Just because the manufacturer doesnt supply it doesn't mean you can't get it.

NAPA carries a vast assortment of small engine parts.
