Pick-Em-Up Question

I bought a new GMC2500HD last year before I moved to this area. The selling dealer has since folded, and I�ve been going to the local dealership for service, parts, etc. I�ve still got 2 years on a 3 year warrantee.

I�ve got a weird clunk coming from the front end on occasion, but the dealer tells me it�s normal. Last time I was in, I asked him to pull up any recall or GM repair orders that might be associated with my rig. He tells me that there aren�t any.

So, for the question~

Is there a website I can go to that can give me info if I enter my VIN? The dealership has a good reputation, but I�m sure I�d get handled a little differently if I had purchased it from them. I�d try another dealer, but the next one is a 7 hr round trip away and my 6.0 gets about 16 MPG.

Ideas? Theories?

And because your dealer is well thought of locally is meaningless. I was once an Assistant Service Manager for a local GM dealer. We had every GM franchise except Cadillac. People flocked in because they thought they'd get treated better at a small town dealership. I lasted five months on the job. I simply couldn't handle, let alone be part of, what they were doing to an unsuspecting public.

At that point, I'd owned a body shop and had been the Ford Service Manager in the same town and had a considerable following of my own. I had to bail out while everyone still trusted me.

I talked to the dealer again this morning and he told me to bring it in tomorrow.

If you can feel and hear it in the steering than it needs a new intermediate shaft. GM is backordered on alot of these shafts.

Kinda sounds like a clunk, huh?(grin)

Any ideas on a place to search by VIN for TSA's? I'd like to get the whole story before I go in, and I'd also like to know specifically which TSA's go to my truck.

I know, picky, picky, but hey, it's worth a shot!

Go to www.fullsizechevy.com and do a little searching. There"s tons of info on your problem as well as tons od great people that will answer all your questions. Your problem is the intermediate shaft. It"s the shaft that goes through the fire wall. The shaft should be replaced under warranty. There"s a service bulitin on this issue so if the dealer play"s dumb, you can mention that and that should jar his memory. There"s a guy at www.fullsizechevy.com that goes by TRITON20. He works for a GM dealer and offers VIN checks for anybody that wants one.

I turned 48 and had never owned a new vehicle. With rebates and incentives (0%) I saved about 7 grand off list. New IS nice!
