Fluke DVM - Other brands

Have been looking at the Fluke line of DVM's and would love to have a Fluke 88 but can't justify the price for occasional use. I've searched for other brands with similar functions but haven't found anything yet. Are there any other American made meters that offer RPM/Dwell on a DVM?

Can't complain on Fluke. Maybe model 66. Lasted over 10 years. Then I wore out.

I've used about every brand and came back to Fluke. Have an 87 and 88.Wouldn't have anything else.

I bought the 88 with case and all attatchments on ebay for 205.00 delivered. ~brad

i have a Simpson 260 and a Tripplet meter but I also use a cheap little analog meter that i bougt for 5 bucks on ebay. They all work well and for use on you tractor or car, the $5 one will do, especially when you accidently drop it!

The Fluke 87/88 is pretty much the standard for Automotive DVOMs. However, you can get decent DVOMs from companies like PDI and ESI. These companies make alot of DVOMs that are rebadged and sold off of tool trucks. For occasional use, these would more than fill the bill.

If using a multimeter on a vehicle or other electrically noisy equipment. You will also require an old fashioned analog meter. Doesn't have to be high priced but the Simpson 260 is the best.

I have a B&K Auto Bench with RPM and Frequency, but I don't know if it's still made. Had it about 15 years. You will not be using "dwell' much any more except for old vehicles.

Consider picking up a used one.Usually can get an older one for a third of new at a pawn shop or Ebay. Buy it a new armor jacket and leads and away you go. If it needs fixing Fluke does it for a set price. Used to be $69 have not had one fixed in some years. They are tough.

Buy the Fluke. I've been using them for years. You can use them as a hammer if your hands are tied. The only one I ever blew up I got across a huge zenon power supply that basically generated a ligtning bolt.

Matco Tools sells one that offers RPM and dwell. It's a KalEquip brand, but it can be bought from places other than Matco and for a lot less money. Sunpro also made a similar meter a few years ago. I would guess it's still available. A Fluke 88 can be had off the internet for about $280 but with no case, extra probes, or the RPM pickup. All the extras bring it up to $395. Google "The Tool Warehouse".
