HI All.. Looking for some thoughts... I just picked up an Honda 11hp 5kw generator real cheap. I bought it for the motor but when i picked it up I found out that the motor was still connected to the generator and was part of the deal. The problem is that the generator doesn't work for some reason. Took it to local honda dealer today and after looking at it stated they would charge 2hr min (@ $65.00 an hour ) to trouble shoot it. I really did buy it for the motor but I was thinking that if the Gen could be repaired for small sum I might just keep it for a back up and find another motor for my project. 1. Does anybody know of a repair manual for a EB5000 Gen. 2. Is there any where to get parts New/Used other than Honda($$$$). 3. Do I forget about the Gen, maybe sell it off for parts to offset the cost of the motor?

Thanks for letting me ramble on.
Any thoughts are welcomed.

I had a Sears generator, made by Generac. I didn't use the machine much, and it would loose magnetism. Once I figured how to "flash" the generator, it would work fine. One other thing that gave trouble on the Sears brands was the voltage regulator. The factory rep told me that the regulators will go bad if the unit sits for a long period of time unused. He recommended using the generator for about 1 hour per month. JIM

Sometimes a generater will loose it's magnetism, if it has not been run in a long time, all you have to do is flash the armature with a 1.5 volt battery.
Good Luck,
Dusty

John, I bought a shop manual for my Honda 3500 watt generator from Hess Construction/Industrial Supply in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Their phone number is (618)398-4377. The price was $13 including tax and shipping about two years ago. My manual says it is for the EB3500X/5000X, EG3500X/5000X, and EM 5000X/5000SX.
