Photo slides to DVD

Here's another question along the lines of copying music from vinyl to CD. I have about 100 slides my cousin sent me. I would like to look at them but I don't have a slide viewer or projector. I've asked probably a dozen people if they have one I could borrow, nobody does. I also checked the area junk shops and what few flea markets are open this time of year. Amazing how fast technology that was common as late as 20 years ago can vanish.
What I'd like to know is if there is a techie solution to scan these slides direct into the computer so they can be viewed and e-mailed.
Any ideas?

We are having some done by out local camera shop in Indianapolis for .50 per slide. (Cord Camera)

I have a friend who's father was a missionary pilot in the '50's and '60's. He has thousands of slides, so he bought a slide scanner and is doing high quality high res JPEG pics. I've seen some and they are good. As already noted, many places can do this now for reasonable price for just a hundred of them.

For about $100 you can get a flatbed scanner that will scan photos, slides, and negatives. It's slow, about 5 or 6 minutes per 4 slides, and you get minimal software than will do a little more than scan.

For about $600 you can get a slide scanner that is much faster. You can spend as much as you want on software that will do almost anything.

I've done 3 trays so far, I am happy with the Canon that I bought. When I've finished 8 trays I will still have the flatbed to use. Unless you plan on doing professional scanning I would go with the cheap flatbed.

Yep, you can have them scanned and burned onto a CD or DVD, any photo store can do it, even wal-mart

I cant answer that buttttt ttttt I can tell ya on our last vacation I USED wINDOWS mOVIE mAKER to put all the pics on a DVD and I actually like it better then a vacation video. I opted to let the pictures zoom in as they were each viewed and I edited on some text of the location n set it all to music and its just so fun n pleasant to view versus a HODGE PODGE JERKY VIDEO.. Guys me age owe it to our kids n grandkids to get all our family pics n old videos digitized and labeled and all put on DVD"s with the history n family tree type info so it will last till almost eternity if anyones ever interested.

I think the answer to your question is yes, I had a cousin do that I think.

Maybe take them to a place that processes film, like Wal Mart or a drug store, and ask them how much to put them on a disc for you. They offer that service when you get film developed.
