My intent is to put vinyl albums onto CD,s.I bought this Sony cd burner.Do I need a digital amplifier[shown in book] to clean up the sound or even just to make it work?I had planned to plug my turntable right into the CD burner and the book does not show or mention this.Is there a way to clean up the hiss if I got an amp with an equalizer maybe?.Anyone doing this succesfuly?I hate to buy a digital amp for this and would probably return the Sony cd burner.Thanks.

Sound Studio(felttip.com) makes a real good and easy to use audio editor. Record to your computer; open in SS play and edit, makes you feel like a real sound tech. Saw an ad for a USB turn table (WHERE???) to record into Itunes, but need to research if there is edit software.

I did many. My dad died 20 years ago and left behind a pile of wire recordings, reel tape recordings, cassette tape recordings, and mono-vinyl. He had a counrty western band and the music dated 1940s to late 1960s. I cleaned it all up and put onto CDs. It takes some practice and learning - but if I can do it, just about anybody can do it. There are many types of different noises to remove you can custom-select - along with generic settings like removing vinyl-type scratch noises. You have to experiment to figure what kinds of sounds to remove. Some freeware programs work well , but most limit your file-size and are basically useless. I think the program I used awhile back was Anvil. I also found that I needed a new sound card.
Most computers don't come with adequate sound cards for doing this sort of work. I realize you're working with mono-vinyl, all my stuff was mono also. I still needed to buy a decent card, and wound up buying a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - which gave the best bang for the buck at the time. This was two years ago, and I'm sure things have changed a bit.

Good to see your posting again!

If you want great sound quality then you'll want to digital remaster the vinyl recordings. That means you'll need to obtain some remaster software. You might try shareware as some of those guys write excellant free software.

Another good digital source is LimeWire, a share your music & video software, BUT the music industry came down pretty hard last year on LimeWire users. I haven't downloaded music in a couple years as I hit it with about 200 of my favorite songs before the man came down!

I've done it many times using a program called Polderbits.
Just run a cable from an outlet dubbing jack or a headphone jack on your stereo using the big RCA plug and at the other end plug into your soundcard input jack on your computer. You can buy the licence to use the program permanently inexpensively, and you can download a trial version for 2 weeks to help you decide.
I find it works well, and my old vinyls and tapes sound real good on cd.

I've got a CD Burner in my stereo rack. So, I don't have a problem with this at all. My dad runs the output of his stereo amp (record out) to the line in on his PC Sound Card. Then, he records to his harddrive. When he wants a CD, he just cuts it from his harddrive. That works well for him. Also, Check out DAK dot com. They've got some good software for removing pops and hiss, once the file is in MP3 or WAV format.

a few days ago I read that software is available just for this purpose... will remove the "noise" when transferring music from vinyl to digital media... unfortunately, I'm getting a REALLY bad case of CRS and can't provide a source... search on ask.com??? D
