My rated rpm on my perkins 3 cyl. engine is 2300 rpm.
The question is ; how do you check rpm on a diesel with no tackometer?
Thanks

Robert: Ya got a "PTO"(or belt pulley)?? Find out the engine RPM's for rated PTO(adj 4 other speeds). Then you can use even an old mechanical held tack. R

Was in a hurry to get a shower, so before you guys jump on me with both feet, I should have said above that some Mfgs. use an alternaor signal for R.P.M.`s. Perkins doesn`t supply the alternator, so whoever hangs their alternator on the Perkins would be the component sending the tach signal. Sorry for the screw up!!!!!

You don`t!!!!! You will either need a photo tach that uses the reflective tape on the crank pulley. Another type uses the fuel pulse from the fuel lines. Or the easiest type of tach would be to have one that picks up the alternator signal output. I believe Perkins uses what they call the "W" wire for that. I don`t know where you can get a tach to read that signal, but they are made. Good luck!!!!
