OT Dead Battery Revisited

The Delco is without a doubt the finest battery made. Delphi makes it, thats all I've used for years, they practically last forever. You can buy Delphi branded ones with the little green window, at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

I'm not so sure that Delco batteries are made today by Delphi. When GM spun off Delphi, they retained the AC-Delco brand name. So "Delco" is just a brand and Delco parts these days are made by the low bidder. Sad to say, but that's the way things go.

Also, I think Johnson Controls (JCI) bought Delphi's battery manufacturing operations.

"Then, hook your voltmeter across the battery terminals. Next, disable the ignition so the truck can't start. Crank for 15 seconds. The voltage must not drop below 10 volts on a new battery of the correct capacity. If it does the battery is defective"

Good a test as I know of it a carbon pile is not available,,, old school but a tried and true test,,, battery must B at full charge but who does that

Just went thru this wif a chain store alt and bat,,, bat bad and alt not up to snuff,,, all they know at the chain store is if the green light comes on,,on the tester its good to go.

A nice print out comes with the alt stating its been check for performance,,, will put out 127 amps @ 2500 RPM,,, I can check'em with the best of'em,,, 70 amps is the best I can git out of'em,,, I figger they just throw the same test sheet in every box.

spend $30 more for a better one same sheet of paper,,, but I can git 90 amps out of it.

Not many folks know how to check a battery,,, every DIY'er should save your tip,,, great tip,,, sure beats the green light test

The 9V test is a for sure kill test if the battery has been charged up to spec. Absolutely no doubt if the voltage falls below 9V shoot and kill it,,,call the family in,,, time for another one,,, green go lite or not.

as a temporary fix until warmer weather, remove the battery cable when you park that S-10, better way is to hook up a battery dis-connect switch (used on boats a lot)

if problem persists then you have bad battery or alternator

if problem goes away you have intermittent current drain

And your truck should regulate a little below 14V

It may need a battery replacement.
