IH F4 magneto

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the impluse coupling from an IH F4 magneto? I tried using a small gear puller but ended up breaking the coupler. I have a spare coupler but I have to remove it from a parts mag.

Thanks for the info fellows. I did see those internal threads in the impluse coupler, but since my 9/16NF tap would not thread into the piece of the coupler that I broke, I figured it was a non standard size. I gues I will have to see if I can have someone make me a puller.

The puller is a special thread but can be made. Otherwise remove all the guts in front and drive shell and then after soaking press it out of the shaft carefully letting rotor go out the front but not far enough to let woodruff rip something.

It takes a puller to thread into the coupler with a screw in the center to push it off. I made mine yrs ago. I can check & see what thread that is.If you need to know. Earl in Illinois

I'm NOT an F-4 mag expert, but have you looked at the Blue Ribbon Mag Service Manual... it should be covered in there.
