If you can open the cases you can fix them your self. They use a sub C nicad in series. My old Dewalt battery cases are glued.Usually you will find one cell dead and the others full charge if you open after charging.Ridgid tool offers free batteries as long as you own the tool.

I have not done this, but you could try buying the parts from www.onlybatteries.com

Just remember the higher the number of the mAH the better.

Look for the batteries with the tab on them.

If you try this report back.

Hi Bill,
I had my Craftsman 19.2 rebuilt by Primecell, and it's working very well. The rebuilt is better than the new battery was. The cost was about the same as a replacement from Sears, though. I think I'll check into generics and interstate next time.

Buy generic replacements, you won't be disappointed.

Do a search on the internet for replacement batteries, include the brand name and model number of your tool.

I have a 12v Ryobi drill for which the batteries went bad a couple years ago - cheapest I could find brand name replacements (Ryobi, Interstate Battery) was about $50 each.

I bought two generics through a vendor on Amazon, if I recall I think it cost a total of about $28 for both, including shipping - they were the cheapest ones available among the several Amazon vendors. They are better batteries than the originals (just as strong, last a lot longer per charge).

correction on cost in reply to Tim B from MA, 12-28-2007 12:00:51
When I got home I looked at my old confirmation e-mails. Two batteries with shipping came to $53.88 About half price compared to brand name.

Company I bought from was Global-Batteries, easy to find on the net.

Also, those generics are still going strong after 2 years of pretty regular use.

I had it done once it bought me about another good year then back to the same old weak battery. Have had others say the same thing they don't hold up.

Don't know if I should try new ones or try another reabuild.

Maybe I should try interstate next time.

I've had a couple batteries rebuilt by the local interstate store. They are better than the originals and reasonably priced.
