Husqvarna 51 won't oil

I got a nice used 51 last year and bought a new bar and chain from my local UNfriendly husky dealer. I only ran it a little bit last year and it was going to be my primary saw. Well, right off all the oil would leak out on the bench. After using it a while the chain is so tihgt and dry it won't hardly turn. I ran it with the bar off and oil comes out the little hole and the hole in the bar looks like it lines up. Could the pump have flow but not enough pressure to go through the bar? This saw is shaping up to be a disappointment. It will never be the saw my old 028 Stihl is.

Are you using actual bar oil? Some saws will not oil if you use a cheap bar oil or engine oil. Second thing, you might not have the correct bar. Is your drivers on the chain still in good shape. If the oiler is putting oil out of the hole, is it a good flow? If you have a good flow of oil then it should get to the bar rails for the chain to pull the oil around the bar. If the tips of the drivers are worn, and pointed, then it may not move enough oil around the bar rail.

yes the gears may be worn to the point where only a little comes thru. The spocket & clutch must come off, then the plastic cover, to look at the pump. On my Stihl 066 the clutch split; a crack radiating from the center to the rim & across the rim. That let the sprocket spring backwards to the sawcase & stick out just far enough to resemble a one-toothed saw, which cut thru the oil line causing all oil to come out the bottom of the saw, none to the bar. No repairman had ever heard of that before. An experienced mechanic is required.

could be the drive gear on the pump is worn.been quite a while since i changed one, but if i remember right it drives off the crankshaft under the flywheel. has a little worm gear that the teeth will wear down and slip, the pumps were pretty inexpensive, maybe 15-20 dollars. took a little while to get to it tho.

check for dirt or sawdust plugging the hole in the bar.

Checked it. First thing, blew everything out. Cleaned the groove, looked at the little oil hole, in saw and bar, put on a NEW chain, tightened right up, dry!
